Word on the streets in China is there’s a new criminal in town. He’s short, highly dangerous, extremely nifty, and very innocent looking. Please be warned … he’s reportedly a “hardened criminal”. He’s mans best friend … yep he’s a DOG!
In the Chinese city of Guangzhou, the local police have issued a warning against dogs with a thing for mobile phones. Strange you might think, yes … but recently it’s becoming somewhat the latest trend for thieves to train their dogs to sneak into people’s homes and swipe their mobile phones! The mobile phones are obviously then flogged off for a bit of much needed extra cash.
Laughable as the whole idea may sound, it isn’t actually that far-fetched! In UK prisons today, our canine friends are being used to sniff out mobile phones, which prison guests may try and smuggle in for prisoners!
Apparently mobile phones have a particular scent which can be homed in on (Ah, yes, my phone has a rather sweet smell to it!). Enter 15 month old Murphy, an English springer spaniel, who has been drafted in from Ipswich, to patrol Norwich Prison. Early signs look promising, with 60 mobile phones already found.
Great work Murphy! Give the dog a phone, sorry I mean bone!
