Warning: Fake iPhone for Sale on Ebay

Published July 20, 2007 by Harriet Rhodes in Uncategorized

In the first week alone over 700,000 Apple iPhones were sold in America, making it the fastest selling mobile phone ever. So I wasn’t surprised in the slightest to see that some entrepreneurial company from China has already started producing fake iPhones.

Fake iPhone

These fakes are already for sale on eBay for around £150, as compared to the genuine version of the iPhone which are selling on eBay for about £400. Here is a video of the fake iPhone.

Clearly the iPhone is a lot more difficult to fake than a Louis Vuitton handbag or a DVD, due to the sophisticated software and technology required, so my advice is to stay well clear. These crude fakes simply don’t compare to the real thing.

How come so many people are into the “real” brand just because…For most consumers, the most important is functionality of the product:whether it is fake or not,but it gives the same “functions” (or almost the same functions) as the “real” one that i expected, and the price is $400 less..why wont I not buy the “fake” one? Yes, I wont help Steve Jobs get richer, who cares…If my phone works close to 90% of the real one, but the price is 20% of the real thing, then why not?

I feel that the iphone is over priced, however, there is no need for so called ‘companys’ to fake it. The iphone, is more of a ‘gadget’ than a phone. But it is indeed, and without a doubt better than any phone yet, eventhough it’s camera is a bit of a let down , only being 2 mp. It is way overpriced for teenagers therefore i think they should preeced to lower the price, and therefore making more money, then other companys will not feel the need to somewhat’ copy the design, in any way or form, eventhough other companys has copied the touch application which is very much desired.

    people, chill out.
stop getting so worked up about this fake iphone stuff.
if you want a real one, then you’re gonna have to pay the normal amount. don’t even TRY buying one off ebay for a cheaper amount.
i applaud all you kids who don’t give a crap if the phone you have is the fake iphone or the real one. so long as it works okay, and your happy with it.
if you don’t like the fake iphone and feel the need to bag it out, then just don’t buy one?
there’s no need for arguements, kids.

Let’s face it, you get what you pay for. If you see an ‘iPhone’ on ebay and it seems too cheap to be true, it’s probably a knock-off. If you want an inferior phone that’s unlikely to come with any guarantees etc. and probably won’t do much more than make calls, send texts and maybe allow you to play a few MP3’s fair enough, but otherwise steer clear. Let’s face it, the fakes aren’t going to have half the features of the real thing.

Unfortunately for people who’ve bought one of the fake iPhones thinking they were getting the real deal they’re probably not going to get far when it comes to getting a refund. This is because if the seller puts in the description that it’s not an actual iPhone they’ve *probably* covered themselves, although it may still be worth trying.

My dad and I recently Purchased a Fake Iphone, it seemed like an alright idea except for the fact that when it arrived things went off the rails.
Evrything works fine except that it wont’ connect to my provider Telstra, We are really stuck on what to do.

My colleague got duped buying one on ebay. Looks quite real although very slow and poor touch screen, also no volume button and it’s bigger than the iphone. She’s trying to get a refund from the user now.

I payed £269 for the older iphone on o2. Its sleek and user friendly, thing is:browsing and utube are useless. The phone prompts commands like “could not activate edge”

Its not worth the money, I feel ripped off. Go to a 2nd hand tech store, iphones are cheaper when they have been used.

remember when u get one u will want to want to make changes but u cant because its bound by APPLE! i do not want to jail break it because i paid to much for things to go wrong, maybe this was the point…the 3g one is cheaper!

    Posted June 4, 2008 at 11:56 pm | Permalink

I do not understand why people on e- bay can say I phone then in the detailed description
they list the make and model, which if you are not paying attention too you get ripped.
My son bought one of these fake phones and I am trying to return for it not being real, but the seller says did you read the total description and says it’s not his fault for my ignorance.
Anone know how to file a dispute and have you ever won?

I always buy the cheapest of the items for sale if they actually work. who really cares if it is fake or not. The real question is Does it work and does it look good? For USD 150, what do you expect?

Good luck to the makers if they can sell at that price and make money. As a user I really do not care which product I use as long as I do not waste my money of the so called branded goods.

I can well afford them but i do not agree with the idea. After all all phones cost very little to make so why pay USD 400 for any phone at all?

the fake i phones arent bad, they hav most of the functions that the real one has. Its easy to tell the difference because the real iphone and the fake one dont look exactly the same!!

I found many differences between the real and the fake iPod. Here they are, if it can help you!
First, the camera on the real is on the left corner of the iPhone. On the fake, it’s a big camera on the center of the phone.
Second, the hour is on top of the screen on the iPhone. On the fake, it’s on the middle of the screen.
ONE BIG DIFFERENCE IS THE SLOT FOR INSERTING THE BATTERY. On the real iPhone, YOU CANNOT OPEN THE PHONE TO INSERT THE BATTERY AND SIM CARD. It’s SEALED, and you CAN’T access the battery. The fake iPhone has a slot to insert the battery, and a removable cover.
Next, the sim card on the real iPhone is inserted from the TOP of the phone. The fake iPhone has a slot behind the battery.
Next, the menu of the fake and real iPhone REALLY aren’t the sames, as you can see on the video.
Finally, the real iPhone only has ONE physical button (hard) on the bottom. The fake has more than 1 hard buttons.

If you buy on eBay, make sure that you have pictures of the actual thing including the box and accessories and is possible, get the original receipt!

I’ve seent the Iphone fakes on ebay and have emailed them suggesting they tighten their listing policy. These phone are poorly constructed and haven’t got nearly as much features as the ‘real thing’. I think ebay is only there to make as much money as possible and the innocent consumer who purchases one of these copies will lose money and have a phone that is a good as a paper weight.

I seen these iphones on Ebay awhile ago, maybe a month and a half. I called Ebay and emailed them and told them these are fakes and even emailed them a pic. of the fakes and a pic. of the real iphone I have and told them to look at the differences. The real iphones only have 1 button on the bottom… I told them alot of innocent people are going to loose alot of money. They didn’t do anything because I still seen them for sale on there. I guess they don’t care as long as they get their money.

I live in Hong Kong, and it looks like the ‘fake’ iphones have hard buttons for sending/ending calls, where the ‘real’ iphones have touch screen buttons for sending calls. Is this correct?

The difference between a fake i phone and a real iphone is that the time on the fake iphone will be in the middle of the phone. the real iphone has the time at the top and in big text.

Have heard genuine i phones on sale now in USA without a contract, i seen one last week that had been brought back and used it, had to be unlocked here in UK but cost in USA was $400 plus local taxes — anyone better that price? and yes it is a genuine i-phone
O2 of course are once again trying to make a forture out of selling it to loyal customers phone will cost £269 i heard + 24 months at £35 a month = £840 even if it was 12 months at £35 its still £420 or 18 months its £630 24 months @ £35 + £269 = £1109 my advice dont buy it let 02 keep them sitting in ware-houses until they start putting customers before HUGE profits
If any of this info is incorrect please correct it so we have accurate information available

It never stops amazing me when I see fake products. Why doesn’t the “company” building these units just design their own? They must have all the kit to hand to build a usable and sell-able phone?
