Another designer phone could be launched soon. Samsung are considering launching a Giorgio Armani branded mobile phone. A spokesman for Samsung, said: “We are currently reviewing the possibility with various firms including Armani. We will make an official announcement once it is finalised.”
In the past few years there have been several designer phones launched, with varying degrees of success. First there was the D&G branded Motorola Razr, which was just a Razr sprayed gold. Then came the Bang & Olufsen branded Samsung Serene. Not the most practical phone considering it requires a special screwdriver to access the battery and the SIM card, and its circular keypad took some getting used to. There has also been a couple of light designer rebrands of the Nokia 8800 in the form of the Lamborghini Nokia 8800 Sirocco and the Aston Martin branded Sirocco.
The most successful of the designer phones has been the LG Prada. Why? Well firstly it’s a pretty good phone in its own right, secondly, it was a brand new phone and not just an old handset with a designer label stuck on it.
All that have been said about the Samsung Armani phone is that it “will come with exclusive content and a unique user interface”, personally I think it will need to offer more than that to compete the likes of the iPhone, Samsung G600, LG Prada and Nokia N95.
Mobile Phones UK have awarded the Armani phone 4 stars in their Samsung Armani Review and Recommended Buys have also awarded the Samsung Armani 4 stars in their Samsung Armani Review
