At the start of the football season, a new footy application to get you in the mood!
Having had their monopoly on Premier League broadcasts stripped away, Sky have snatched up the right to broadcast football clips to mobile phones.
The service will be available to customers of T-Mobile, O2, Orange, Vodafone and 3 and is available to anyone, regardless of whether or not they subscribe to Sky TV.
Customers will be able to watch in-game highlights (while games are still being played!) from the Barclays Premier League and from the UEFA Champions League. Post-match highlights will be downloadable as well, as will archive clips from classic games.
The service also offers breaking news clips from Sky Sports News, downloadable clips from Saturday morning football show Soccer AM, and updates from the Gillette Soccer Saturday live scores team.
Each clip costs 50p, or there is the option to subscribe for £5 a month. The information in the small print says that “Clip download charges are included in your package if you are on Vodafone UK, Vodafone Ireland, Orange, T-Mobile, Three UK, Three Ireland, 02 UK and 02 Ireland, otherwise you may incur additional data charges from your network operator“. So in other words there’s no additional charge for the downloading.
There is limited information on the website, but you can submit your number to receive text updates when the service launches, and there’s also also mention of a first month free promotion.
