First pictures of the Nokia N95 8GB Music Edition

Published August 29, 2007 by Dialaphone in Uncategorized

Tomorrow Nokia are going to announce an 8GB version of the massively popular N95 at their London show.

n95-8gb-open.jpg

Billed as a music edition, this new development could easily be construed as a response to the 8GB iPhone, which with its excellent integrated iPod is clearly the music phone to beat. The iPhone should be launched in the UK before the end of 2007, presumably around the same time as the new N95

The latest incarnation of the Nokia N95 is black, and certainly looks the part, but is it worth upgrading from your current one, or even choosing it over the previous model?

n95-8gb-open2.jpg

Well that depends on just how much music you plan to store on it. The current N95 can store up to 4GB if you buy a microSD memory card and these are available for around £20. The new N95 is likely to be more than £20 more expensive than the old, so just how important is that extra 4GB to you?

A a guide you should be able to store around 2000 songs, or 166 albums on an 8GB device, about 1000 songs or 83 albums on a 4GB device.

Details are scarce about the actual spec of the N95 music edition, but reports claim there has been a reworked back section with the removal of the camera lens to alow for a bigger battery. There are hints as to some more advances gaming facilities as well, and Nokia are set to announce their own iTunes rivaling music store, so expect some kind of compatibility with this.

Mobile Phones UK have awarded the N95 8GB 4 stars in their Nokia N95 8GB Review

  11. kevin

Is that for definate then julian because around me Vodafone is rubbish. I really want this Nokia N95 in the black!

  12. Hi Giles,

Yes you are right, the Nokia N95 8GB is no longer a Vodafone exclusive. Dialaphone.co.uk will have it in stock in the next day or two.

Come back soon to check the offers,

    Julian.

  13. Giles

If you search for ‘Nokia N95 8GB’ on Google you’ll see a few retailers offering the handset on O2.

  14. cameron corsey

nope not available only available on vodafone… and probably will only be on vodafone for the forseable future. I got one, not to bad £40 a month, free phone, free unlimited texts, 750 x-net anytime mins, free insurance for the full 18months and free unlimited internet access?
now thts not bad atall and the signal is very good, almost as good if not the same as o2.

To be honest the n95 8gb has as much chance as going on other networks (ie o2, orange, 3, t-mobile etc) has about as much chance as the iPhone being sold on other networks in the UK. This phone is half the price of the iPhone and it is twice as good as the iPhone….HMMMMMM wat should you go for? haha

  15. rhys

    ORANGE UPDATE!

I went and enquired about the N95 Black on Orange and it appears that yes, it will be available to buy on Orange in the New Year. Free on all packages £30 and above :)

  22. naz

by the way forgot to mention the main quibble that everyone had about the original n95 was battery life. The n95 8gb now has a very good battery life no matter how much you use it you should get at least 2 days use between charges. If used just for calls 3to5 days should be no problem trust me the 8gb version is a much much much better device what it should have been from the start true to what computers that have now become nokia, hope my comments have helped

  23. naz

hi all, after reading evryones comments regarding the n95 8gb here is a brief summary by my self. I actually own both the n95 8gb and standard version and i can tell you the n95 8gb is a far more powerfull and capable device than the original. The build quality is far better too, better slide better buttons better brighter larger display it is of a solid durable construction not a single squeak or creak or rattle from any part of the phone unlike the origina flimsy battery cover generally weak build. The 8gb will never say memory full no matter how many apps you have running due to 90 mb of free ram available on start up compared to only 20 mb for the original its also faster. The only thing that i can note that is a downside is that there is no memory card slot which otherrwise has improved on everything the original had to offer simply the best gadget phone multimedia device money canbuy fantastic . Iphone is a joke in comparison or anything else well done nokia a true quality product

  24. pinchers

the n95 had some small issues when it first came but after the upgrade which is quite simple , this phone is just the best.

  25. Tom

Mine turns up on Wednesday a good upgrade I think, shame it has not got a touch screen though

  26. sher boy

is there a lens cover on the 8gb n95?

im sure nobody would want to have there lens dirty!

  27. Loz

I upgraded with vodafone on Sunday from a Sony e to this, it is due to arrive today (wasn’t available yesterday) between 08:30 and 18:00, tick, tick, tick, tick.

My Daughter has an N95, was tempted to go for that only to find the 8gb available so well pleased. tick, tick, tick, tick.

  28. ahmed

can you record audio only on the n95 8gb? like if i’m in a big lecture hall and I want to record hundreds or just tens of hours of my professor’s lecture?

also does anyone know if the n95 8gb also a pda? is 8gb enough for a pda? I don’t know?

  29. PeteM

I just sent my Samsung G600 back as it was a nightmare to work with, the application for managing files and music etc doesnot see the 1Gb on the card and will only load on the to the 40Mb of the phone memory…

I’m on Orange and enquired as to when this will be released, the first op told me they were not releasing it due to probs with teh original N95, the second op said it’s not flagged as been released this month but that’s all she could tell me…

Keep your fingers crossed, my contract don’t expire until Late Jan 08 so I’m tied to Orange till then… so Pleeeeeeeessssssssssseeeee Orange release this phone now!!

    Pete

  30. john

does anyone know when this comes out on orange?

  31. xnetcrash

I guess if your phoning needs are limited to calling your girlfriend a few times a day and writing sms then you are right the phone is shit, you cand do that with a nokia 1100 that costs around 5 usd, but if you want one of the best phone on the market right now than this is it. And to answer a question earlier, yes the phone is unlocked and works with all GSM networks in the world.

  32. adam

    this fone is sooooooooooooo shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
evan a old fone is beter

  33. xnetcrash

People I don’t know why you are writing here if you have no idea about this phone. The name is the only thing in common with the old n95. The 8gb phone has a bigger batery 1200 mah, incresed ram, upgraded hardware and software, bigger screen, better buttons, etc. And comparing it to the i-phone is useless, they are 2 phones completly diferent. i-phone has no 3G or HSPDA, has only a 2 megapixel camera that is doing only photos no films, has a touch screen, no gps hardware, diferent operating system and many other things. Although is a very good phone, is the phone I will buy for my wife, but if you want a real phone than the n95 8gb is as close to having everything in one device. And if you want to buy one you just have to write ” buy n95 8gb ” on google and you will find a lot of online stores that sell’s them, especially the US store sell them a lot cheaper then the EU stores. Thank you.

  34. Search

Does anyone knows when this phone will be available on Orange? please let me know if anyone knows. Even if it is not coming on Orange and update from you guys will me much appreciated.

    Best Regards to All

  35. Graham

As far as I know O2 are not selling the N95 black yet.

They are suppling the standard N95 with an 8GB memory card though.

  36. cameron corsie

    no its not?

  37. Emma

Miz – its already released on O2 as I have mine coming next week :)

  38. miz

any1 knw wen this n95 8gb be released on o2?

  39. Reaper

Just ordered mine from Vodaphone on a free upgrade, Thank you very much Vodaphone for throwing in a Bluetooth Headset as well… Will hopfully get it on the 9th of november, just in time to test its Memory Capacity. buying a Mp3 player seperatly to a mobile phone is now a nightmare long past….

    What an Impressive phone.

I am usually a Sony-E user, but hopefully the change wont see me upgrading for at at least a few years :)

    Akram,

I believe you meant to say ‘psychiatric team’ in your comment?

  41. Nethernity

    really?
    u got it already?
But, I thought, it began shipping on 25th of october?
do u know when would it be released in Asia?

  42. Fateja

Has there been any official word from nokia or any of the networks / sales outlets such as dialaphone as to when this phone might actually be released? I’ve been charged with the task of getting 5 new contract phones and if the N95 black 8GB isn’t too far away I’ll hang fire on 3 of them until that’s released.

It seems this phone is quite improved over the standard N95.
Having an N95 myself, I can honestly say that despite the rumours floating around they’re actually a fantastic phone. Early problems with them like the short battery life, crashing and so on were resolved (mostly anyway) with the 2 successive firmware updates to versions 11 and 12 respectively. There are still some small bugs and a couple of annoyances but all in all I’ve yet to experience a better phone as a complete package. The sat nav works great too!

So far the improvements over the original N95 are:
Better battery life (Something the 95 could do with a little boost admittedly, even with Wifi and BT turned off it’s a bit of a battery muncher)
More RAM – the 95′s biggest nemesis is it’s lack of RAM memory, the new one apparantly has improved and more RAM.
Different camera – Lens and CCD are the same, but the flash mechanism has been improved and relocated, along with the deletion of the awkward and ugly shutter guard.
8GB memory – 4GB cards on the N95 are black magic, some work some don’t, 2GB is still the accepted max if you want it to work guarenteed. It’s not that all the 4GB cards don’t work, but in a lot of cases the most you’ll see is 2GB out of them. Bring on the extra storage space as the current amount (before card upgrades) is pitiful, especially with such a storage space hungry camera and music setup, what where Nokia thinking!?

hope this provides some insight, if anyone has any idea when the phone might actually be released I’d love to know as I’m dying to get my hands on a new version.

I have just been in contact with a Nokia retail store and they said to me middle of October.. I can’t decide if i should get the N95 8gb or the applie iphone.. I would think i could get the n95 8gb as a free upgrade but the iphone is £269!!

I can’t decide! Either way, the N95 8gb looks a sexy piece of kit

  45. stu

apologies for the long post by the way!

if u kill ur nokia battery fully then give it a full charge, do this for 2/3 times ur battery life will last a lot longer than normal, depends on application usage… its working for me… last over a day, wicked!

  48. theonlymac

Yes it does take 3.5 jack. Apparantly it has better battery than the original. That’s why they took off the lens cover, so a bigger battery would fit. And it has a bigger screen. But i’m not gonna buy 1on this cos i prefer memory card rather than winchester because thez can e taken out if the phone dies or something…
By the way i just bought a hi-power battery into my n95 and it ctually lasts one whole day! It’s amaizing!! :D

  49. Gary Marks

Will it take a standard headphone… if not then it’s not for me

  50. I A M H E M A N

whats the point of 8gig on n95, what will you store in it, only music. what good is 8gig when battery will die within 2 hours when listening to music, taking pictures, recording videos etc.
If you do any of the above you’ll be left without a phone untill you get home and put it on charge.

N95 is a great phone better than any phone in the market, but the battery is very poor there is no point bring out never been seen high-tech gadgets if the battery isn’t going to last long enough for you to use it. The Tom Tom for example if you go on a long journey using the tom tom your battery will be dead leaving you stranded middle of nowhere without the use of mobile.

So don’t rush out to get it untill they sort the battery out.

  51. Zibran Hafiz

this phone’s really got it all…im definitely buying it the moment it is raeleased if not sooner…and lemme just assure you all one thing….this phone is going to rock the woorld the instant it is out…

  52. Troot

What a load of RUBBISH. Nokia haven’t got their current N95 right with all the problems they’ve had. Do you lot really expect this to have that “Wah wah wee wah” effect? Wake up, get real, smell the cheese, FART even but come to your senses. Complete & utter CRAP.

  53. muneer

how can i protect my lens from the dust and other things the may effect

Dial-a-phone are amazing. They do great things for great people. I hope they sell this phone for the good of the public! Some great comments on the blog finally and can I say the dial-a-phone inbound staff are my hero’s!

    Love you all,

    the bomb.

  56. Michael Doyle

This phone looks the bomb. An n95 and I must be a drug addict not to get this, I cannot wait. This is the bomb. An n95 with a black fake cover. I must be seen by a psychiatric team not to purchase this!

  57. cutts

i have the N95 and i want te new version when will it be releasd in stores

  58. Drew

Once again impressive specs, if only Nokia’s current N95 had more of an impact for the right reasons instead this model cannot live upto its image (see N95 vs K850i Blogs). I’m not one to burst your bubble but people’s experience of the N95 wouldn’t have you rushing to the shops to get one especially on the phone’s questionable battery standby alone…how much more this 8gb model…No thanks that’s just silly.

  59. David B

Whats all the fuss about? This phone needs a memory card! It needs a bluetooth! If not you need a very good car kit with it!

I have had many phones, nothinh compares to my nokia 3210 with the hammers facia!

    Dave

  60. akram

  63. Faisal

it’s a best good looking mobile phone i have see. Almost every quality have there.
it’s mobile phone helpful family and business man. One word say it’s a smart and stylish mobile phone. That all.

  64. Loomy Loom

awesome phone.. shame it aint running Windows mobile tho

  65. Alan

Will it still retain the distinctly fishy odour that so attracted me to the N95? I cannot find any specs. I would dearly love one of these newfangled high fidelity telephonic devices, but I am loathe to commit my heart and my wallet unless it retains the nasally arousing qualities of its predecessor.

Un si bel arome. Il est magnifique! Comme le parfum de la mer.
