New proposals from Ofcom have paved the way for mobile phones usage on aircraft.

Mobile phone base stations would be fitted into aircraft and the cabin crew would be allowed to switch them on when the cruising height is reached.
Calls would be routed via a satellite to a network on the ground and standard roaming charges would apply.
Both the base stations and passengers’ mobile phones would have to be switched off when taking off and landing.
The Daily Telegraph has launched a campaign to ban mobiles on planes but only in terms of the irritation that some people would undoubtedly feel upon being sat next someone who spent the whole day yapping into their phone.
True, that would be a bit of a pain, but just as some people have reservations about the mobile network being extended to the London Underground, there are plenty more who would appreciate the ability to stay in contact while on the move.
Are aeroplanes really such sacred places that we shouldn’t be allowed to use our phones?
What do you think?

Da Bomb talking like a proper bad man!
Would you be allowed to listen to music on your phone with earphones in while in the airplane? Although on take-offs and landings i’d switch it off.
Hi
Very much for a long time searched for article on this theme.Thanks.
G’night
DaBomb was joking, and I think precisely 87.32% of you lot are total imbeciles.
As far as the subject in hand (…) is concerned – I don’t see a problem with phones being on, as long as they’re switched to silent mode. If a call needs to be made, ask the permission of the stewards, and hey – maybe learn some manners and ask the person next to you if they mind you making a five minute call if it’s important.
It’s probably only us English who’d suffer in silence, as we do with most things because we’re an apathetic country. That’s another issue though, and nothing to do with Nick’s blog.

Get an ipod or some kind of mp3 player to listen to banging music on the plane. say no to mobile phones on the plane, i won’t get into other negative ways in which they can be used but use ur imagination, laden
I don’t think its a good thing to have mobiles allowed on planes as it may cause interruption with the planes functions.
Keep yer banging tunes to yerself. When i travel by plane im usually either going on or returning from holiday. I dont even take my phone on holiday- thats the point, im on holiday. I dont want some loon mc’in next to me on a 4 hour flight. Important calls is fine, but i dont think they should open the doors, so that every inconsiderate person on the plane ruins it for eveyone else.
Hell ye!
Your welcome da bomb. btw what is your real name?
No – im a frequent flyer and don’t find flying and enjoable experience at the best of times. The last thing i need when im feeling uncomfortable is someone talking in my earhole. I think phones should be banned from using phones on all modes of public transport.
I don’t think mobiles phones are going to bring the plane down (or blow up a petrol station) and never have, but surely as they become more advance, more trouble could be caused with them?
If you want to listen to music, get a iPod.

You have some need to talk about english, Look at your grammar .It should be An english lesson not ‘a english lesson’. Also you can’t learn an english lesson, you can be taught one but you can’t learn one.
@Hazle Nutt
u have some need to talk bout english with ur bad grammar (da bomb needs to learn a english lesson) its an english lesson and you cant learn an english lesson you can be taught one but you cant learn one
p.s. not house and garage rave and nu-rave
Methinks “da bomb” is trying to have a laugh. There are probably those who think that way, but the message just reads like a bit of a mickey-take…
It seems like a reasonably well thought out system. I think it’s generally admitted that phones interfere with flight equipment as much as they do medical equipment i.e. not at all! The never-take-a-break businessman who natters all flight would be a pain though. I wonder could they look at some sort of “fair use” policy. Have cabin crew train as Mobile Phone Wardens. If you talk too long, you get a ticket!!
@ “Da bomb”
Yeah! mate, not every one likes your kind of “bagin” tunes, thats why we have “Earphones”.
I do however think having mobile usage in planes is a good idea, you can let loved ones knows if the flight is delayed or need to make a last minute phone call for something you forgot etc…(list goes on)
So that the people don’t yap all day long, the cabin crew should be allowed to switch it on for 10 minutes twice during the flight, after take off and before landing.
i “fink” da bomb needs to learn a english lesson.. and no house and garage is not orignal
i fink mobile shud be alowed on planes so ppl like me can lisen to our bangin tunes so we can put sum mc’in over them and share them wi rest ppl on plane
