Here is the first video the forthcoming Nokia S60 Touch. The S60 Touch offers a similar user interface as the iPhone, but supports both finger and stylus input, plus tactile feedback (haptics).

Key features of the Nokia S60 Touch are:

  • Efficient and intuitive Touch UI with tactile feedback
  • Advance sensor technologies and UI Accelerator toolkit
  • Flash Lite 3 enabling rich web video on S60

The key features pointed out in the video presentation above are:

  • Make single handed calls on the go (no exactly unique functionality)
  • Direct access to all key functions
  • Physical feedback
  • Silent alarm just by turning phone over
  • Compose messages easily with stylus or finger

Unfortunately, Nokia haven’t issued a launch date for the S60 Touch, all they have said is, “These technologies will be available for all S60 device manufacturers during 2008.”

Nokia better hurry up, the Apple iPhone is well established, the Google Phone could be released any week soon and Sony Ericsson have just announced a new iPhone like interface, called the UIQ interface.

Ohhhhhh come on! The phone isn’t called the S60, that’s the name of the operating system which is on loads of phones, this is just a demonstration of the new touch interface running on the Symbian S60 OS. And UIQ isn’t new either.. that’s another front-end for Symbian that has been around for donkeys years.. they’ve just tarted it up a bit.
