New Nokia 8800 Arte Series Luxury Phones

Published November 13, 2007 by Andrew Boxall in Uncategorized

Nokia’s existing premium range mobile phones, the 8600 Luna and the 8800 Sirocco are beautifully styled phones, but lack an impressive list of features to justify their hefty price-tags. Nokia however, have just unveiled two new models that maintain the breath-taking style of the aforementioned phones and boast some serious features too.

nokia-arte-brown-closed.jpg nokia-arte-black-closed.jpg

The 8800 ‘Arte’ and the 8800 ‘Arte Sapphire’ are the two new models in question, easily differentiated by colour, the ‘Arte’ is black and the ‘Arte Sapphire’ is brown and by the whole sapphire mounted in the centre of the ‘Arte Sapphire’s’ D-pad. Both are 3G phones and have 3-megapixel auto-focus cameras and a massive 1GB of internal memory! Their elegant slider design helps maintain a fuss-free front panel, broken only by the D-pad control and inside the flashy box, a linen-lined pouch to keep your phone safe and warm and a Bluetooth headset can be found.

As always, it’s the special touches that make the duo stand out. For example, a couple of taps on the steel fascia wakes the clock up on the display, which also has something called ‘living wallpaper’, first seen on the Nokia 7900 Prism (pictured below), which changes and adapts to time, battery power and signal strength. The coolest new feature has to be the ability to silence you ringing phone simply by turning it face down on the table! To further set these two apart from Nokia’s more run-of-the-mill phones, they feature exclusively created videos, sounds and ringtones.

As with the previous Nokia 8800 phones, the ‘Arte’ pair are constructed using the highest quality materials and have a special fingerprint retardant coating on the panels, with the ‘Arte Sapphire’ going one better by having a soft-touch Indian Goat-hide covering too! One can never accuse Nokia of not thinking differently!

With the 8800 Arte expected to be available before the end of the year, and the Arte Sapphire following in early 2008, potential owners should start putting some money aside, as neither of these will be cheap – but then exclusivity never is.

What an amazing and classy phone, reliable does everything a phone should do, its not a posket laptop but who wants that pure style and glamour. And as it goes quite indistructable in my view. I love my Arte, amazing style.

Great phone, got it from Vodafone for £150 as an upgrade. It truely is beautiful, it was an engagement present from my other half as I do not want a ring!!
If you guys are near your contract end, Vodafone will reduce the price as long as you haggle them down!! Very similar to the Sirrocco but a world apart from any other phone on the market. The screen is bigger on the arte sapphire making it better to view your pictures, but again I just use my phone to text and call, I do not download songs or videos so not sure how it would compare to other phones!!
A high price for a luxury phone, unless you are lucky enough to haggle Vodafone down! I understand its only currently available offline or on Vodafone. Let me know if anyone has got it cheaper, would be good to hear your stories!!

Enjoy your lovely phones!! (but dont forget to insure them!!)

I have just bought the Nokia 8800 ‘Arte Sapphire’, and like all my previous nokia’s i have been especially pleased with them. I still have my nokia 8800 Sirocco in black and i will keep it. They are a work of art and i cant be bothered with having phones that have loads of gadgets on them which i will probably never use. If i want a camera i would get a proper camera and not have one on a phone. I just want it to call and text. However i do go for looks, and this is certainly my favorite phone now. I just look forward to what their upgrade to this will be like because they are getting better and better.

@ henry … errmm … … well … … ever heard of selling first out OLD technology to the masses to maximize profit? Look at intel, AMD, Cars … hey … … … all the things we have in our consuming society.

Look at the iPhone agressive marketing strategy and iPhone selling figures … paying nonetheless at least a total of? 1200 USD (with contract)? for what? for a retro-phone from the past and it is praised to revolutionize the phone industry? get real … … … hey if you can afford it, buy it, love it, use it, … …

and to Nokia … AT LAST, FINALLY A NOKIA SLEEK LOOKING 3G PHONE (not to speak over the N-series … just … … nevermind) … … Anyway I’m looking forward to this new 3G phone … … and so after roaming off brands … I guess I will finally end up again with a Nokia afterall … … … (Ericsson > Nokia 8800 > Nokia 8800 Sirocco > Ericsson K800i > HTC 3300 > Nokia 8800 Arte?!?!?!?!)

As a Nokia 8800 and Sirocco Edition owner, I’l certainly be giving one of these some serious consideration but I was hoping the ‘latest’ 8xxx series Nokia would come in Silver. The Silver & White Sirocco looks gorgeous so its a shame the Arte range doesn’t have one at launch.

The (standard) Black Arte looks a little cheap actually, from those photos. Never really been a fan of brown but I think I’l either be buying an Arte Saphire (far more classy appearance with that leather!) and/or be waiting for Nokia to release a chrome/silver one like the Sirocco or at least a silver aftermarket casing to show up on Ebay…

firoz you are right on mate, I still got my 8910i its an all time classic. Commenting on the pricing by vj you are exactly right I got my black 8800 well over a year ago for around £270 I could easily sell it today for a minimum of 200 look at others like the k810i when it came out it was approaching £300 and that was after I got my 8800 now you can get it for £70 on pay as you go!!!!

I agree with some of you all, but most of you guys knows nothing but just barking. The 8800
series is a kind of LUXURY good, just like world most expensive phone (Vertu). Why all of you keep on mention about functions with this master piece. It’s just like an MVP car and a Ferrari. This phone is for millionaire. If you guys want, just go get an N95 or N82. 8800 is for high status person, not ordinary one like you guys. Try understand Nokia’s marketing plan, we call this Marketing segmentation in Marketing!!!!! Nokia not stupid.

Couple of pals have the 8800 Sirocco – lovely phone! At first look this one seems even better, with even more refinement for the more discerning customer. Lets face it, those people with a penchant for gimmicks will most likely hate it…. Those with a taste for the finer things in life will love it!

I’ll be gettin my hands on one mid January and ridding myself of the gimmicky N-Series i’ve be ladened with.

    @ engineer & vj

A fair point made by both of you, that its all about style, but let me put it to this way, if Versace or other well known designer takes a crap and rolls it up in a cling foil, stamps its brand name on it and sells it for £599 would you still buy it.

i agree with you guys that the phone looks very nice but look at the iphone granted its £269 but its looks very cool and you could do a lot more on it the the Nokia 8800 Arte Series.

I completly agree with Henry this is yet another feeble attempt by nokia. For the money the camera should now be 5mp, the internal memory should by at least 4gb and i bet the battery life is wrong as with the previous 8800’s probably 8 hours stand by and 30 mis talk time.
