Nokia Go Green With the 3110 Evolve

Nokia World 2007, where Nokia Comes With Music was announced, was also the stage for further information on Nokia’s commitment to being green, something they have been excited about a lot recently. Furthering this cause was the first showing of the Nokia 3110 Evolve, a mobile phone for the environmentally aware.

Based on the functional but uninspiring 3110, the Evolve gets an attractive makeover, giving a smoother, more modern look and retaining its predecessors set of functions. It’s not looks or flashy functions that make the 3110 Evolve special though, it’s the materials used in its construction.

Nokia call its casing a ‘bio-cover’, as it’s made from 50% renewable material, presumably instead of fossil-fueled plastic, and the box the phone comes in is smaller than usual and constructed from 60% recycled material. Nokia’s most energy efficient charger completes the package, besting Energy Star regulations by a massive 94%.

Sceptics say it won’t save the world on its own, but that seems hardly the point. The 3110 Evolve is not only part of Nokia’s bigger green picture, but is clearly aimed at those already reducing their carbon footprint in as many areas as they can; the Evolve being another minus on their tally. After all, it’s all the little things together that will make a big difference.
