Retro Gaming Goes Mobile With The ‘Octo-Phone’

For those looking for a mobile device that combines a 1981 Octopus Nintendo Game and Watch and a mobile phone, 2008 will be a happy new year indeed.

The retro game phone labeled the “Octo Phone,” has excited vintage Nintendo fans and mobile users alike. All are hoping to get their hands on the device that people are starting to talk about.

Thanks to a resourceful Japanese mode, the classic game has been modded to a mobile phone – one presumably much cooler than the WiiPhone.

Incredibly, while the size of the game itself is somewhat large, the man behind the device has succeeded in making the handset much more slim and free of the bulk one would otherwise expect from such a gadget.

As it turns out, inventing such a widely hyped mobile device isn’t so difficult to pull off. All you need is inspiration and a practical need. The Octo Phone, which has been made fully operational as a mobile phone, came about as the result of a childhood disappointment.

As a kid, this clever mobile game/phone creator was given the two-screen Donkey Kong by his mother. After losing his beloved game on a plane ride, he resolved to never be apart from his favorite game again. Eventually he found a way to practically weld the gaming unit to his always available and accessible mobile phone.

Makes me wonder what other items people lose that could similarly be molded into a mobile phone. Indeed, the possibilities are endless.
