Nokia N96 – How To Beat The Phone Of 2007

Published February 13, 2008 by Harriet Rhodes in Uncategorized

Nokia certainly isn’t one for resting on its laurels, and has already announced a successor to the massively popular N95 handset. The original N95, which was subsequently upgraded to a black 8GB version with a handful of other tweaks that included a screen upgrade, is now set to be superseded altogether by the new Nokia N96, displayed recently at the 3GSM World Congress show. After a quick look at the specs it’s not a wildly dissimilar device, but such are the wealth of features packed into the N95 already that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

What you will find is a default 16GB capacity, with a micro-SD card slot capable of upping it to a whopping 24GB, enough for around 60 hours of video content. This is one area you might well want to get busy with as well, since the 2.8” 16 million colour screen should make the most of the phones DVD-quality 30fps recording capabilities. You’ll find support for MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video formats, and perhaps the most significant update to the phone’s feature set is that of an integrated DVB-H receiver. This would offer live TV broadcasts direct to the phone, which also includes a programme guide, though the service is subject to availability from the service provider and network coverage.

Other highlights include an upgraded Nokia Maps application that offers more detail along with satellite views and a kick-stand at the back to make for easy viewing of video content. Thankfully Nokia has also retained all of the highlights of the N95, including the 5MP Carl Zeiss optics camera, 3.5mm audio jack and a range of connectivity that includes WLAN and HSDPA. Nokia plans to ship the N96 in the third quarter of 2008 with an estimated price of around 550 euros. You can find the full specs here.

I personally like Nokia phones, but the new N96 will have some tough competition that N65 did not have. I am of course talking about the iPhone, and maybe even more importantly the upcoming Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 which is looking unpercedibly good for business use with both touchscreen AND full QWERTY keyboard and the impressieve 800×480 resolution.

…the perfect phone doesn`t exist..and will probably never be born either…after the N96 there`ll be a N97, N98 etc… I guess what applies to a PC is also valid for a high-end mobile phone : don`t buy the latest, more expensive version, buy the one before..much cheaper and within a year just as outdated as the now-new-one… I only upgrade every two years or thereabouts and can`t seem to be getting anything better but the N95 8GB for my personal needs (camera and internet), as the touchscreen rivals are no serious competition (..ever tried to really use a touchscreen keyboard when working on the net, with text and all that ? .. a truly revealing experience..) – but that doesn`t make the N95 a great high-tec tool….. just the better of two, perhaps three evils :-)

i think in 2008 it would be very difficult to beat this great handset. As every1 knows Nokia n95 was a great hit. i this will do better business than Nokia n95.
