Samsung caused a bit of a stir at the MWC with its U900, featuring among a pretty comprehensive list of specs the ‘magic touch’ control that changes the functionality of certain keys according to the application you’re accessing. Certainly not one to be caught short in the touchscreen market, LG had something similar on offer with the KF600.

Sporting something called the Interactpad, you’l find virtual menu keys that change to show the required operations a user needs to complete the task at hand. It’s been dubbed the ‘mind reading’ phone in some circles, but this is a bit of an over-glorification of what is essentialy an adjustable touchscreen display. Regardless it’s a nice idea from a usability point of view, and makes it far easier to perform tasks quickly using the digital audio player, video camera, digital camera and other functions. You’ll even find some degree of tactile response; the phone vibrates slightly and the button illuminates when pressed to confirm your actions. It’s also very pretty customisable with a series of themes that cover all aspects of operation.
The KF600 is pretty well kitted out in other areas as well, and includes a 3MP digital camera with functions such as red-eye removal, an FM radio and Bluetooth.
There’s certainly enough on offer here from a usability standpoint;we expect to see more context-sensitive operations being built into phones this year, but in the meantime you should be able to pick up a KF600 in the UK country from the end of this month.
