The 10 Craziest Cell Phone Accessories Ever

Published March 4, 2008 by Kathryn Vercillo in Best of..., Features

You probably spent a lot of time on getting the right cell phone. If you’re like most people, you probably also change that phone fairly often. You get a new phone to replace the old one or you get new ring tones and media options to enhance the mobile experience that you’ve got in your hands. However, the phone itself isn’t the only thing that you need to pay attention to if you want to have a device that is going to be fun for you and noticeable to others. Once you’ve settled on the right phone, you need to make sure that you’ve got the right accessories to go along with it.

Here are the top 10 attention-grabbing cell phone accessories that you might want to start calling people about:

1. Phone Tattoos.

People put tattoos on their bodies in order to tell the world something about who they are. Since your cell phone is practically an extension of your right hand, maybe you should think about tattooing it with the message or image that you want the world to be impressed by. You can buy stock photos for these tattoos but the creative person will design their own image on their computers and print it out onto blank tattoos. These are basically just stickers that then get put on to your phone. It’s a way to personalize your cell phone and share a little bit more of yourself with the world.

2. Mobile Phone Telescope.

There is good news and bad news when it comes to this cell phone accessory. The good news is that it’s a really neat tool that can take your cell phone’s weak little camera and turn it into a fully-functional zoom-lens camera that gives you high-quality photographs. Instead of having to carry around a camera and a phone, you can just carry the phone with this accessory and have a great camera at your disposal. Now for the bad news; it’s only available for certain Nokia phones so it’s not going to suit most people. It’s a good start to bringing new cell phone / camera technology to the market, though, so perhaps we’ll see more like it soon.

3. Flashing Cell Phone Pen.

Have you gotten in the habit of tuning out your cell phone’s vibrating ring to the point where you’re often missing your calls? You can avoid that problem by attaching this cell phone pen which is equipped with LED lights that flash when you’re getting a call. It’s a functional pen that doesn’t even need to be attached to the phone to know that you’ve got a call coming in, although you do have to be within three feet of the phone for the pen to work. If you don’t like the idea of carrying around a flashing pen, perhaps you’d prefer the company’s Flashing Cell Phone Bracelet instead.

4. Playboy Cell Phone Purses.

Want the guys to know that you’re a Playboy Bunny in the making? Miniature cell-phone sized purses accessorized with rhinestones and the Playboy logo will let them know that you’re the girl that they want to call. Add a Playboy cell phone charm and get a Playboy cell phone charger if you really want to drive the message home. Just make sure that you’re only giving out your number to those guys who are really skilled in the art of cell phone seduction. Otherwise you run the risk of using up your minutes on a lot of those heavy breathing calls.

5. Solar Energy Charge Mobile Leather Case.

This appears to be a basic leather cell phone case that is also a solar energy charger. It comes equipped with a solar panel and built-in lithium battery that seems to be capable of charging your cell phone. An adapter makes it possible to use this with a variety of different phones. However, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of description yet from the makers of this product other than to say that it’s currently available.

6. Sony Walkman Phone and Portable Speakers.

Sony has started putting out a line of Walkman phones that are designed to integrate music libraries with mobile phones. They reportedly don’t compete with major music-playing phones like the iPhone but have recently gotten a boost in popularity since they now come along with portable speakers. They are pocket-sized speakers that snap onto your cell phone to allow you (and everyone around you) to hear your music better. In a bright orange and black color they are arguably stylish.

7. Cell Phone Screen Protectors.

These are the modern day equivalent of the pocket protector that you’re probably only going to get if you’re really a nerd. However, they do serve a purpose in protecting your cell phone screen from damage so if you want to embrace the geek inside, you might consider picking up a pack.

8. Palm Treo Clear Hardcase and Belt Clip.

If you have a Treo and you want to protect it, get your hands on the crystal clear hard case that is custom designed for this product. You don’t have to take the phone out of its case in order to plug in any of your other accessories or chargers. It’s durable and comes with a belt clip so that you can wear it proudly. You may think that this case is nothing much to look at but you can always brag to others that you were able to foot the $1000+ bill that this cell phone accessory is going to cost you.

9. Garter Belt Cell Phone Strap.

Cell phone straps are a conversation all their own with strange ones coming out all the time but here’s one that’s designed to be more sexy than strange. That’s because it doubles as a garter belt. Folks that think garter belts just aren’t functional might be more turned on by this cell phone strap that carries a pouch which holds your re-usable chopsticks.

10. TomTom Mobile 5 Navigation Pack.

Okay, so this isn’t necessarily one of the cell phone accessories that people are going to see right off the bat when they look at your phone. Nevertheless, it’s one of the most functional accessories that you can get for your making your mobile phone a more efficient tool. You insert a memory card into your phone and suddenly you have a slew of GPS and calling features at your fingertips. The major benefit to this accessory is that it gives you location assistance including mapping and spoken directions to your destination. You can use it to plan your trip itinerary and make changes along the way by requesting it to give you information about restaurants and businesses in your area. It’s not compatible with all cell phones but is great for a number of them so you might want to see if your phone works with this product.
