Are you the mobile phone trendsetter in your social or professional group? Did you have a smartphone before anyone else around you had even heard the word? Did you get into personalized ringtones when they were brand new and then revert back to a normal ring when everyone else had jumped on the ringtone bandwagon? Or are you just a big fan of personalizing your cell phone in the latest and newest ways possible? If these are things that sound like they apply to you, then there’s a good chance that you read as much mobile phone news as you can get your hands on. That’s a great way to keep yourself on the cutting edge of mobile phone trends but a better way is to start attending the annual mobile communications and technology conferences where the latest gadgets and gizmos are first revealed.

Here are the top ten annual conferences that you’ll want to put on your calendar for 2008-2009 if you plan on staying on the cusp of cell phone development:
1. Mobile World Congress. This is one of the biggest mobile communications events in the world as you probably know from all of the news that just came out of the 2008 event. People who really want to get in on the ground floor of viewing new releases in mobile technology will find that the diverse range of companies presenting at this annual conference provide them with a great amount of new information. Over 50,000 people attended the 2008 conference in Spain so this is obviously the event to put on your 2009 calendar if you’re only going to get to attend one conference next year.
2. CTIA Wireless. This event purports to be the largest wireless trade show in the world. It’s certainly a great place to go to see what’s going on in wireless development since representatives of companies located in over 100 different countries come together here at this event. Besides, it’s held in Las Vegas, USA which is a terrific city for having some fun! The event’s in April so it’s coming up quick for those mobile phone lovers that want to start getting into the convention scene.
3. WiCom 2008. Also known as the annual International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing, this event will be held in Dailan, China in September of this year. All aspects of wireless communication will be discussed here amongst industry professionals from around the world. People who are particularly interested in the academic and research developments being made in the mobile industry may consider this the conference to attend.
4. MACCongress. Don’t let the name of this annual conference fool you; it doesn’t have anything to do with mobile Mac technology. This unique and interesting conference is the “Mobile Adult Content Congress” held in Florida, USA each January. As the name suggests, this multi-day conference is all about how to appropriately bring adult content to mobile devices. It addresses everything from legal challenges to overcoming the technical difficulty of accessing adults-only content through your mobile device. This conference isn’t going to necessarily keep you on the cutting edge of the whole mobile phone industry but it’s probably the mobile device conference where you’re going to get to have the most fun!
5. ICWCUCA. This is the International Conference on Wireless Communications in Underground and Confined Areas. Poor coverage in these areas continues to plague wireless users all around the world. People with a concern for this aspect of mobile phone technology will find the announcements and issues that are presented at this conference to be of interest. The conference is to be held in August in Val-d’Or, Canada.
6. CEWIT 2008. The Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology holds an annual conference in New York each October. The conference is associated with research that is happening at a U.S. university so it’s got a more academic approach to presenting information than many of the other consumer conferences out there.
7. Vietnam Telecomp 2008. If you really want to go somewhere interesting this year for a wireless communications conference, consider booking a trip to Vietnam in November. This conference has been going on for twelve years and it gets bigger each time. People interested in the global perspective on wireless development with an emphasis on changes taking place in the Asian mobile world will benefit from attending this one.
8. Mobile Web Americas. This event was held in October 2007 in Florida, USA and saw great success in bringing together people interested specifically in the development of the mobile Internet. There have not been new announcements yet about the 2008 event but people who want to know more about what’s going on with moving the mobile web forward will want to keep an eye out for those announcements.
9. 2008 Wireless and Mobile Expo and Conference. This conference happens in Toronto, Canada in July of this year. Dubbed “The Leading Annual Global Event for Wireless and Mobile Solutions”, it is attended by IT and Business professionals seeking to gain information about how to make better use of wireless technologies in the business arena.
10. ExpoComm: Wireless Japan. This conference also happens in July of this year. You’d be more keen on attending this one (as opposed to the one in Toronto in July) if you’re interested in learning about the developments that are affecting the Asian mobile phone market. The reason that this might interest you is because many of the cutting-edge mobile phone trends that happen around the world get their start in the Japanese market.
There are conventions both small and large located all around the world which provide information and news to people interested in mobile phone developments. These are ten of the biggest and most interesting ones for world travelers that want to really get to know the developments that are taking place in the world today. If you can’t make it to these events, consider attending a small one in your local area. And keep staying on top of that mobile phone news presented by those people who do attend these world events.
