O2’s XDA range of handhelds have always been pretty successful, offering some of the most stylish and functional touch screens around. The majority of the series up until recently has tended to target the traditionally styled PDA market, but in the new XDA Atmos it has adopted a different approach that tries to offer something for everyone. It’s a touch screen Windows Smartphone that seems to have been developed by Asus rather than O2’s long-term partner HTC, but there certainly don’t appear to have been any early corners cut in the change of supplier.

The tri-band UMTS device has a massive range of connectivity that includes HSDPA high-speed data, GPRS, EDGE, quad-band GSM and WiFi. There’s a 2.4″ touch screen here but beneath it you’ll find a traditionally styled numeric keypad, which initially gives it the appearance of run-of-the-mill mobile. Business users needn’t be concerned by this though, since a horizontal slide-operation reveals a QWERTY keypad for data entry, and the phone comes with pocket versions of MS Office and push email support on its Windows Mobile 6 interface for doing just that. Admittedly this choice of design does mean that you’re sacrificing some real-estate on the display front, though more casual business users may find it a compromise worth making. On the consumer side of things you’ll find a 2MP camera, video calling, Bluetooth 2.0 and microSD expandable connectivity so it’s certainly a good all-rounder.

Actually although the article is incorrect O2 have ditched HTC with the XDA, but not the Atmos, it’s the Zest that is a Asus phone.
Facts, facts, facts….a reporter is only as good as his last story
– lol!
As Kerian said, O2 have not ditched HTC, and you should get the facts before coming out with something like “O2 Ditches HTC” when they clearly have not. HTC make excellent PDA phones which is why O2 use them for their XDA series.
Erm, no, they HAVEN’T ditched HTC, the Atmos is an HTC S730… please research these things before going to print with them!
