If you’re tired of squinting at text messages and emails through a poxy 2.5” screen on a mobile phone, perhaps a 60” display would suffice? It’s been in the offing for some time now, but following a recent report by the New York times, it seems as though micro-sized digital projectors designed to be attached to (and undoubtedly, eventually built into) mobile phones are fast becoming a reality.

They’ll allow consumers to send video content from a handheld to a projector-friendly surface to allow you to enjoy entertainment on the big screen. The new models are designed to be small enough to fit into a pocket, and early projections (pun intended) suggested an initial selling price of around $350. As well as entertainment use, the devices could be invaluable for business use, and provided the phone in question offers the capabilities to effectively manage and produce the sort of content required could enter the mainstream market sooner rather than later.

Sales predictions for 2012 in fact are up at around $2.5 billion, and with companies such as Iljin and 3M already manufacturing such devices, we’d expect the technology to be refined sufficiently for use by the general public rather quickly.
