Nokia seems to be quite pleased with how well its range of revised and retro mobiles have been received by the industry. The ‘Classic’ series in particular has seen considerable success as have some of the rebranded black models of established handsets. Another has been added to the mix in the form of the N82, previously being finished in an already attractive silver/stainless steel.

There aren’t a lot of revisions to an already impressive feature set, which still includes a 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a Xenon flash, quad-band GSM, WiFi, HSDPA support and a microSD slot for upping the capacity. The original N82 also had a built-in GPS receiver, which offered A-GPS routing through the free Nokia Maps software, and this is one area that has received a bit of a refresh.
The new version of the phone features upgraded firmware which allows the built-in GPS receiver to automatically log the location in which a photo was taken with the picture, otherwise known as geo-tagging, and is something we’ve already seen on Garmin’s 3.5G Nuviphone and Navman’s range of in-car GPS. When you throw in extras like the DVD quality video capture and Nokia’s Sports Tracker features, which allows users to share travel routes or workout information, it sets the N82 Black up as one of the most capable and feature-packed mobiles for travellers or adventurous types around.
Expect the phone to be available from the start of April for around 400 euros, minus subsidiaries from contract providers.
