According to a report this weekend the Houston Zoo switchboard has been jammed with thousands of calls per day after a text message prankster launched a mystery campaign.

Zoo managers have been forced to call in the FBI after their main switchboard was jammed with people calling asking to speak to “Mr G Raff” and a host of other animal names.

Apparently thousands of mystery text messages have been sent to phones across the US prompting the recipients to call the main switchboard number. Zoo chiefs are puzzled buy the text messages and are struggling to deal with the 250 calls per hour that have been flooding in over the last few weeks.

Spokesman Brian Hill commented: “Even on April fool’s day where we get a lot of phone calls for ‘Mr. Lion’ and ‘G. Raf’ or ‘Ellie Phant’ or ‘Ana Conda,’ maybe we would get a few thousand phone calls, but it might last only one day”.

Nick, Actually it was the Dublin Zoo that was receiving phone calls from hoax text messages that directed people to call G. Raff or Anna Conda and then listed the Zoo’s phone number for replied. At Houston Zoo the text messages that have prompted phone calls to our main number have been variations of “Someone’s looking for you.”
