Apple is widely expected to announce the latest version of it’s popular iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 2 or iPhone 3G, at the 2008 World Wide Developers Conference this evening.
The event starts at 10am Pacific time which is 6pm UK time and has a keynote speech by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
Jobs is expected to announce a new iPhone with GPS and faster internet access as well as other features such as games, a better camera, video recording and extra third party applications. Recent reports are indicating that Apple will allow carriers to offer larger subsidies to which might bring the price down to just £100 here in the UK.
Previously the iPhone was sold at a price fixed by Apple with no allowance for networks to reduce prices even though it would have been profitable to do so. Thanks to easy internet access iPhone users consume much more data than normal phone users which would allow networks to offer a larger subsidy than normal.
Several websites are offering live coverage of the WWDC including Engadget, Gizmodo and Macworld.
We will have a full round-up of the news after the event so watch this space for details.

Actually, its FREE to £99
Oh no Dialaphone!
3G, Cheaper, and better than any other phone on the market? You’ll have nothing left to moan about! (I’d imagine that’s why its taking this long for your WWDC follow up blog)
Though I await your ineviteable “top 10 reasons not to buy the iPhone 3G” blog, clutching at straws like ‘the camera still hasn’t been upgraded’ and ‘it doesn’t have windows mobile’.
Or perhaps maybe, just maybe, you’ll see sense, stop being bitter – admit that it’s better than any other phone on the market, that you all probably plan on buying one, and you cry yourselves to sleep because you can’t sell it.
Gutted.
