The Nokia Tube Becomes the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Published June 17, 2008 by Andrew Boxall in Uncategorized

A quickly deleted Flickr account provided the official designation for the flashy touchscreen Nokia dubbed the Nokia Tube, which broke cover a short while ago.  The Tube has become the 5800 XpressMusic and although nothing official has come from Nokia yet, we still have some details:

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Key Features

-    First Nokia handset to use the Symbian S60 Touch software interface.
-    The XpressMusic tag reveals its intentions as a music orientated handset.
-    A 3 – 3.5″ screen is rumoured, complete with stylus and haptic feedback.
-    Front mounted camera lens indicates 3G capability with video calling.
-    A 3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera is likely.

Apart from all these goodies listed above, the rumoured inclusion of not just 3G, but HSDPA too, plus WiFi and GPS do smack slightly of fan-induced hysteria, especially as it has been publicised that the Tube will not be a high-end model.  With all these features in this one, what on Earth would they put in their top ranger?  Of course, this is one area we’re happy to be proved wrong!

The 5800 XpressMusic has been on display as the Tube for some time and with the official release of the 3G iPhone, we can’t see it being particularly long until Nokia shine the official spotlight in the Tube’s direction.  It’s a good-looking phone and if that spec-list is factual, it’s set to be very popular.
