The Sony Ericsson W902, which has been leaked onto the Internet in picture form this week and has the pretty but entirely non-techy nickname of Patti, is the next Sony Ericsson Walkman-branded music phone based around the C902 CyberShot mobile phone. As it shares the 5 megapixel camera, expect 3G with HSDPA support too. Here’s what’s known so far:
- The latest version of Sony’s excellent Walkman software.
- An M2 Memory Stick slot accepts cards up to 8GB in size, one of which is expected to be included in the package.
- A 5 megapixel camera.
- Dedicated music keys allow instant access to your music.
Sony Ericsson’s Walkman phones are among the best music player/phone hybrids available, so it should go without saying the W902 will be a safe bet sound quality wise, however there has been no hint the handset will have a 3.5mm jack plug for you own headphones, which seems a strange oversight. Perhaps an adapter will be included in the package.
Although based around the already released Sony Ericsson C902, the W902 has had a few design changes, most notably along the right hand side, the rear panel and the screen. An unusual checker plate style grip has been added to the area with the dedicated keys and also the battery cover on the rear, giving the handset an odd asymmetrical look. The display looks to have lost the touchscreen keys too. With details scarce at this stage, nothing is certain so we look forward to the official announcement.
