What a tangled web the story of the HTC Dream and Google’s Android operating system is. At the tail end of last year, gadget watchers were treated to a variety of possible handset choices which may house Android, the most notable being the Dream and the Omni, both of which were super sexy pictures of modern, desirable phones. The latest leaked pictures of Android running on an HTC device show an entirely different, but very real, phone – it’s just not quite as space-age as we would have liked. With noting other than the pictures and some educated guesswork to go on, here are some specs:
- A touchscreen interface is combined with a hidden QWERTY keyboard.
- The screen itself slides to reveal the keyboard, rather than the keyboard sliding out.
- A 3 megapixel camera is rumoured.
- A 528Mhz processor and 128MB RAM keep things running smoothly.
When compared to the details listed in the prior rumours, this new HTC Dream fits just as well as the other handsets, so there is every chance what we’re looking at is the real thing. Still, with no official confirmation on anything Android or HTC Dream related from either company, everything could still change, although the design does match up with the device pictured in the video found earlier in the month demoing Android on a then unidentified phone. What is expected is the HTC Dream will go on sale in the USA on the 13th October via their T-Mobile operator, but announcements and pre-orders could come as soon as the 17th September. The recently discovered FCC approval details state a 10th November release date, so at least somewhere around these months is a pretty safe bet. Now all we need are European dates!
