The first versions of the Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia are coming to the UK very soon and the operating system will be Windows Mobile. However speculation is arising that future versions of this high end smartphone might run a version of Googles Android software.

Xperia is a whole new brand from Sony Ericsson and the X1 is just the start of it. The fact the X1 used Windows Mobile gave a good boost to Microsofts mobile ambitions but according to Magnus Andersson, product manager for the X1, “the brand is not tied into any specific technical platform”.

Google Android is, as yet, untested in a commercial environment so Sony Ericsson is wise not to be the first to test it but if Google has created something amazing Sony Ericsson is perfectly placed to make the most of it and integrate Android into their phones.

The X1 is Sony Ericssons most advanced smartphone ever and is due to hit the UK sometime in October.

Your title is in the wrong order – operating systems run on hardware, not the other way around…
