Last week it was the G1, this week Nokia have swept in with the official launch of their first full touchscreen mobile phone, the long-awaited 5800 XpressMusic! Sony Ericsson also have some phones in the news, albeit prematurely, and we get a glimpse of a new Porsche phone.
1. T-Mobile G1 Unboxing!
Although we never quite seem to get the attraction of a video of someone taking a product out of its box, we can’t resist some unboxing pictures, especially of the G1! Apparently sent to Tmonews blog, these super-clear pictures show exactly what you get in the brand new G1 Android phone, which includes an HTC Touch-alike leather pouch to protect your snazzy G1!

2. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Phone Announced!
After having seen it everywhere including the cinema during the summer, Nokia have finally told us – more or less – when we can buy the Nokia 5800 and it will be before the year end. Official specification is exciting stuff, with that full touchscreen, GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera and 3G with HSDPA support, making a prime candidate for those not wishing to stuff Apple’s pockets any further. We can’t wait to try it out!
3. Sony Ericsson Show their Green Heart.
It’s still at concept stage, but these types of mobile phones are certainly the future. The GreenHeart phone is Sony Ericsson’s biodegradeable mobile handset which could simply be thrown away when you had no further use for it and it would become one with nature! They’ve even used bio-plastics for the accessories.

4. Toshiba Show Off Fuel Cell Battery.
A battery which never needs recharging? Sounds too good to be true, however if Toshiba do as they plan, we could see Methanol batteries in mobile devices in the next year. They have been showing off their Methanol fuel cell in Japan and have stated they’ve managed a six-hour talktime from the tiny pack, which is double the life of a standard, similarly sized item.
5. Nokia to Concentrate on Consumer Products…
Despite their excellent E71 business handset and many other similarly professional mobiles, Nokia have decided to focus their efforts on the consumer side of the mobile market. Although they will continue to release phones such as the E71, their core concern will be on the more multi-media, public friendly handsets such as the exciting N96.
6. …But Still Love Their Business Phones!
As sneak pictures of this little beauty prove. Obviously it’s still a concept, but this gorgeous touch Communicator will be one to look forward too!
7. New Porsche Phone Spotted.
Sagem are set to release another Porsche phone onto the market soon, the P9522. Instead of a clamshell design, this time Sagem have opted for a candybar with the now almost obligatory touchscreen plus a more usual set of alphanumeric keys, GPS and Wi-Fi but no 3G, all wrapped up in an aluminium body which is put together not in Stuttgart, but France. Still, it’s a nice idea.

8. New IE6 Mobile Browser Pics.
Anyone clunking their way around Windows Mobile 6 will know only too well that the packaged Internet Explorer is the clunkiest part of all, so it’s pleasing to see we could be getting an upgrade soon in the form of ‘6 on 6′; code for a mobile version of Internet Explorer 6 on WinMo 6. Better late than never!
9. Sony Ericsson Rika Spotted.
A new Sony Ericsson Slider phone has appeared on the Internet this week, code-named Rika. This red handset is rumoured to be a Walkman phone and possibly related to another forthcoming Sony Ericsson handset, the G705.

10. Hail the Steampunk Phone!
Fans of Steampunk often produce wonderful pieces of art based around the strange fantasy subgenre and this is Arthur Schmitt’s take on a steampunk era mobile phone complete with gauges and that thick, fat speaker cover. We absolutely love it!

Thanks for reading and join us again next week for more mobile news!

One Comment
I am using my third Nokia, digital, pre-paid phone and I need to change to Next G. There is a Next G tower on our farm and, of course, I have no service in that area.
Because I am satisified with Nokia and have been advised by salespeople that it is still the one to choose, I am loathe to change to another brand and want to know when I can expect to be able to buy a Nokia with the blue tick and remain pre-paid.
I look forward to your reply.
