On July 22nd this year, Sony Ericsson announced two new Walkman mobile phones, the midrange W595 and the range topping W902 which we’ll be looking at here. What makes this model special is its combination of music, camera and data expertise, something of a rariety to find altogether in Sony Ericsson’s range.
<h1>Features of the Sony Ericsson W902<h1>
Naturally, the Walkman music player is the W902′s headline feature. It was already well known for giving a great sound, but this latest version of the software improves clarity by tweaking the bass and the stereo separation to produce one of the best sounding mobile phone/music player hybrids on the market. The W902 also features TrackID, SensMe and Shake Control.
But that’s not all as Sony Ericsson have popped a seriously capable camera on the rear of the slender candybar casing. This is perhaps the most exciting part as although top-end cameras are usually found on the CyberShot phones, here we have a 5 megapixel, autofocus lens with a flash and the ability to shoot 30fps video – all on a so-called ‘music phone’!
The 2.2″ screen is ideal for viewing both video and the Internet and since the W902 is a 3G handset with HSDPA support, it should be nice and fast too. An interesting new feature is the geo-tagging of pictures by way of cell ID instead of GPS, which the W902 does not include. All of this inside a 100 gram, 11mm thick mobile phone makes for one of the most anticipated Sony Ericsson handsets out this year.
Release Date:
As with the W595, Sony Ericsson have stated a Q4 2008 release date, however they have not been anymore specific.
Also Consider…
As the W902 boasts such a competent camera as well as the music player, it’s actually punching well above its weight in terms of features, so to find a comparable handset one may have to look at Nokia’s all-conquoring N95 or the brand-new N96.
