This week we have news concerning the Android G1, including the potential UK release date, more BlackBerry Storm goodness, the latest Prada phone from LG and several exciting new phone releases! Sit back, relax and read on…
1. Storm captured on Video.
This is no badly focused mess made with a mobile either, this is an official Vodafone video showing off the extremely impressive BlackBerry Storm user interface, which we reviewed this week. For their first touchscreen attempt, it’s looking very polished indeed and we suspect there maybe some Apple execs nervously shifting in their seats when this goes on sale.
2. LG Prada II is Official!
The first LG Prada was a brave attempt to bring touchscreen goodness to the masses and it was a little hit and miss, although far better than most others available at that time. LG have now announced their second Prada collaboration and this time it has a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA 3G and Wi-Fi. It’s out before Christmas too.
3. G1 Out In UK Soon.
The much-hyped Android G1 is expected to be launched in the UK on the 30th October. If you want to see it in action but have no intention of purchasing the 158 gram behemoth, then Engadget’s review is just about as comprehensive as it gets.
4. ‘Ere, Mateski, Want An iPhone?
Russian scammers are using fake iPhones to close deals. Dodgy cases contain nothing except a weight and a small battery, which powers the device long enough to show the Apple logo, but that’s all. Nothing but a dead battery? Nope, nothing but a fake iPhone. Let’s hope they don’t reach these shores anytime soon.
5. Water Boots to Charge Mobile Phones?
Supposedly set to hit stores in 2010, shoes with water reservoirs in the soles will create electricity when the motion from walking forces the liquid through tiny turbines. This energy is then channeled to your phone or gadget which is powered and recharged on the move!
6. Nokia and Apple Fused Together.
The delicious Nokia Aeon was already a looker, but this concept by designer Mac Funamizu takes it one step closer to visual perfection. Shame this isn’t ‘real’ as whatever it cost and wherever we had to travel, we wouldn’t care; as we simply have to have one. Now.
7. Sony Ericsson Fanboys Show Us Theirs.
Not news as such, but still something you should all see. The dedicated team over at the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog have invited fans to send in pictures of their Sony Ericsson collection. Now, this could be ripe for ridicule, but we actually find collections of phones strangely cool. One to keep a watch of, we think.
8. Spike Lee and Nokia’s Movie to Debut.
Those readers with long memories may recall we talked about this back in May, when Nokia announced they would collaborate with the famous American director to create a movie from mobile phone shot footage sent in by Nokia users. Well, they did and it’s here. Take a look at the first video at Nokia Productions.
9. BlackBerry – The Choice of the Famous.
We’re sure almost every mobile phone company could put together a similar presentation showing plenty of famous persons wandering around using their handsets, but BlackBerry is so far the only one to have it leaked! So, behold – people in the news using a BlackBerry – thanks RIM, just what we wanted!
10. New Phones Released From LG and Sony Ericsson.
We’ve got some great coverage of the three hottest phones being talked about this week, the LG KC780, with its 8 megapixel camera and wealth of tweaks and settings to take the best picture possible, the Sony Ericsson W595 Walkman slider phone with 3G and HSDPA, plus the Sony Ericsson W902, the new Walkman range topper this time with a great camera added too.
The weekend beckons, so join us here next week for more top mobile phone news stories!
