The Apple iPhone has taken the world by storm with its sleek design, great functionality and its very cool touch screen. For the visually impaired though, the world of the iPhone has remained a bit of a mystery as its sophisticated design has meant there is no tactile response to pressing the screen.

Enter the Silicone Touch from Yanko Design, which still keeps the iPhone looking good, but provides that extra bit of accessibility for the visually impaired.

The Silicone Touch iPod case works together with an application to allow special accessibility functions. These include text to speech and moon type tactile feedback.

The case itself wraps around the handset and uses bas-relief buttons that have been imprinted upon the case to allow the blind to use the iPhone’s facilities. Each button corresponds to a modified home screen on the iPhone.

The creators of this ingenious skin maintain that none of the iPhone’s functionality is compromised with multi-touch and finger flick scrolling still enabled for use.
