Sony Ericsson has let the cat out of the bag on its plans to release its first Android phone which is due to be launched next summer.
According to Garfield Brusewitz from Sony Ericsson, the company will start by focusing “on products in the higher segment, but later on will also supplement with products for the broad mass market. The first Android phone from Sony Ericsson is expected to show up for the summer.”
These high quality phones will be devoted to running Google’s OS which was launched earlier this year.
Sony said that the Android OS would complement its existing mobile platforms. These include devices using the Symbian operating system, and Windows Mobile on the Xperia X1.
Several other mobile phone makers, including Samsung, HTC and LG, have hinted that they will release their own Android-based handsets in 2009.
Android was developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance, and was designed to bring the easy desktop computing experience to mobile devices.
Looks like next year Google will not just be taking over our 18 inch monitors, but our 3 inch ones as well.
