The UK continues to make money from mobile phones – in this case however much cash Russian billionaire Yevgeny Chichvarkin could carry when he arrived here in December.  Yevgeny used to own the cellphone-selling empire Euroset (aka Yevroset), which was so big it had it’s own hymn.  Yes, a hymn.  To a mobile phone company.  Then again, when a mobile phone company has an annual turnover four times the GDP of the Seychelles we suppose there are less powerful people to pray to.

The trouble began when the Russian government asked if he wouldn’t mind paying some taxes on those two billion pounds.  Yevgeny said no, which is a pretty ballsy thing to do to a government whose main problem-solving strategy is tanks.  When the police stopped by to ask him to come for a chat they found he’d just stepped out – to England.  And it doesn’t look like he’s going back.
