Toshiba may not be a name which springs to mind when considering high-end smartphones, but if it wasn’t before it will be now! At an event in London this week, they unveiled the Toshiba TG01, a stunning new touchscreen smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.1 and boasting a heavenly display!
It may be specced more like a pocket computer than mobile phone, but the Toshiba TG01 has been made with portability in mind as it has a slightly larger footprint than an iPhone 3G and measures a lithe 9.9mm thick! The screen is a huge 4.1″ and has a resolution of 480×800 – that’s WVGA – and it’s surrounded by a very sleek casing pictured in both a gunmetal-grey and white.
Examining the TG01’s specification is fascinating. It’s the first to use the high-performance/low power consumption Qualcomm Snapdragon platform which has a 1GHz processor and combines all the major functions into one chipset; it’s also a 3G with HSDPA handset, it has Wi-Fi and GPS, expandable memory and full Flash support.
Windows Mobile 6.1 provides the operating system and as with most manufacturers these days, Toshiba have placed their own colourful, configurable, 3D user-interface over the top to aid finger control and lessen the need to delve into Windows itself. In the video this appears to be nicely responsive while looking really fantastic! Watch out for the gaming demo at the end too.
We know two things about the release of the Toshiba TG01, one, it’s going to be out in the summer and two, we can’t wait!

Here is sumthing more abt this super device..
The Toshiba TG01 is the first device in the world to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, which is powered by a 1GHz mobile CPU and hosts GSM, HSPDA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity all on one chipset. The CPU has dynamic speed control and Toshiba and Qualcomm claim it’ll go for a whole day without recharging. TG01 have the huge display – a 4.1-inch large touchscreen display has a WVGA resolution (800 x 480 pixels) and it’s certainly the biggest one we’ve seen on a GSM mobile phone. The Toshiba TG01 also packs unprecedented size for its hardware capabilities – it’s only 9.9 millimeters thick. The device is obviously quite wide and tall but that’s mostly because of the display as there are hardly any hardware buttons to take up place – even the receiver keys have become part of the user interface present throughout the whole UI. The connectivity section of the Toshiba TG01 includes HSPA and Wi-Fi plus a GPS receiver with A-GPS functionality. The internal storage is “only” 512 MB but you get a microSDHC card slot with support for up to 32GB. The TG01 also comes with support for DivX video, and finally, the Toshiba TG01 makes use of a built-in 3.2 megapixel camera.
