There is a big push in mobile phone handset design right now to make more mobile phones hands-free phones. Perhaps Australian company NV Phones has the edge here; this week the company launched a set of mobile phones that can be worn on the wrist as watches. The mobile phone wristwatch isn’t a new concept but the new line by NV Phones is different from those phones put into the market in the past; these phones are multi-media capable phones that are much more advanced that the watch phones of days gone by.

The new wristwatch smartphones are touchscreen smartphones that work best with a stylus because of their small size. The phone’s keypad is built into the wristband of the watch. The phones support media playing (both audio and video) and have a storage capacity of 4GB. They include an ebook reader, digital camera and productivity tools. They work with Bluetooth but can also be spoken directly into (in a fashion dubbed Dick Tracy style).

The company has provided a plethora of options to people interested in trying out the wristwatch phone. There are ten different models ranging drastically in price from $399 to $999. They are primarily 3G-enabled quad-band smartphones. Currently only available in Australia, these phones could move out internationally if they sell well this year.
