Law Enforcers Catching up with Mobile Technology

Published February 10, 2009 by Luke McKinney in How to...

The boys in blue are catching up with modern mobile technology – now you don’t need 999, you can text for police assistance.  An SMS sent to 07940 500 500 will earn the attention of London law enforcement officers and you’ll get a confirmation text when your message is received.

Just like with social cell use, don’t text when you need an immediate response – that’s what the actual “phone” part of your phone is for.  The text service is designed for those with speech or hearing difficulties, but is open to anyone with a non-urgent issue.  What isn’t clear is what measures are in place to protect against prank messages.  Thousands or ruined relationships are testament to how many don’t view texting as “real”, and many might snigger at the thought of being arrested for texting with intent.  We’ll just have to wait and see.
