Nokia Return to Roots with the 5630 XpressMusic.

nokia-5630.jpgNokia were once the manufacturer of choice for those who wanted a slim, light handset with stylish good looks.  Recently they have been a little sidetracked with the larger N-series, but with the XpressMusic brand, Nokia seem to be returning to where they made their name.  The 5630 is a traditional candybar mobile phone which despite its compact size, packs quite a punch!

Nokia 5630 at a Glance

The 5630 uses Symbian S60 as its operating system, making it a smartphone! A set of dedicated music keys, a MicroSD card slot and a 3.5mm jack plug confirm its musical ability. It has a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with a dual-LED flash. The phone is just 12mm thick and weighs only 83 grams! This is a 3G handset with HSDPA and Wi-Fi.

The Nokia 5630 XpressMusic takes advantage of Nokia’s two most recent online innovations, Comes with Music and N-gage, allowing users to purhase and download plenty of music files and enjoy some excellent games at anytime.  The inclusion of 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi ensures you can use the fastest Internet connection available too.

Making everything work nicely is Symbian S60, powered by a lovely ARM 11 600mhz processor and 150MB of shared memory, so the 5630 should be a quick little thing, plus there is A2DP Bluetooth, a 4GB MicroSD card included and the usual support for GPRS and EDGE.  Battery standby is currently quoted as being 400 hours – a mere 16 days or so – with seven hours talktime.

Of course, music is integral to the 5630 and aside from the essential 3.5mm jack plug and various dedicated keys, the phone has an FM RDS radio, support for most music file types andsoemthing called ‘Say and Play’.  Here you press and hold a key, then say the name of the song you want to hear next and low and behold, it plays!  The 5630 XpressMusic has been officially announced and will no doubt be playing its funky music at the MWC, where we should get a better idea of its launch date.
