We knew it was coming and we guessed we’d have more information during the Mobile World Congress week, but little did we know the first 12 megapixel camera phone would have a face and a name before the official start of the show! Sony Ericsson have presented the Idou – a name which will be changed come release day – at their early press conference and although it’s still a ‘project’, there’s a good chance it will be on sale by the end of the year.
The Idou will be a Symbian smartphone and the 12 megapixel camera has all the expected goodies including face recognition, plus ‘touch focus’, a xenon flash and in-phone image manipulation. The phone will also feature a massive 3.5″ 16:9 touchscreen display with a resolution of 640×320, the Walkman music player and Java gaming. Connectivity wise, it would be safe to assume both 3G and Wi-Fi will feature.
Sony Ericsson’s Idou will be a part of a new range of mobiles with the tag of ‘Entertainment Unlimited’ – phones designed to incorporate music, gaming and multimedia in a single easy-to-use device. The Sony Ericsson Play Now service will feature more prominently along with the launch of a new online application store, where we would expect to find games and apps to go with the Play Now music. Looking at the promo website, the Idou looks to be exactly the sort of exciting phone we would like to see from Sony Ericsson!

i cant wait for this phone, but i throught release date is sometime in october for the uk. i going get nokia n97 for time being and iphone it not good phone for me. tis so long to wait to this wait for this phone
:(:(.
This is gonna throw the iphone out of the window this phone is gonna be awesome when it get’s released in december 2009 with it’s 12.1 megapixel camera
I give Sony Ericsson a big prop for being as prestigious as they have been. Sony Ericsson has excellent phones but from personal experience, there are many software issues and minor bugs. Comparing Sony and Nokia, Nokia phones are tested with the best quality and have a standard of having the best product life. Nokia N97 is going to be the best for a while, even with the SE Idou release
if u want to get it ur goin 2 have 2 save a bit cause its 2200 australian dollars its alot but im gonna save 4 a bit
I hope the December release date is to ensure that the software works properly and doesn’t have any nasty bugs that all sonys phones seem to have. They are the really nice phones with good user interface but they’ve got too many glitches…
Still looking forward to this one though and will probably get one regardless.
This will definitely be better than nokia N97 and the iphone but the release date is around december 2009 its too far away .. I can’t wait that long. This is like an all round entertainment mobile phone.
