It appears Nokia themselves leaked the information on this hot new mobile phone, which perhaps makes it more than a mistake than a leak, but any news is always welcome on such an eagerly awaited piece of kit! This is the N86, the first 8 megapixel camera phone from Nokia and as the lens is courtesy of their long-time partner Carl Zeiss, we’re willing to bet this will be one to challenge the mighty Sony Ericsson C905!
Even though this wasn’t an official announcement at MWC, specification details have found their way on to the Internet, giving us all we need to know about the N86! The phone will feature Assisted GPS, a 3,5mm jack plug and a 2.6″ 16 million colour OLED screen, video and music player, Wi-Fi, TV-out, stereo speakers and A2DP Bluetooth. Naturally it’s a smartphone, with Symbian S60 3rd Edition running the show, plus an 8GB internal memory and a MicroSD card slot to increase this to 16GB.
The camera will record video in VGA at 30fps and apparantly will be very capable in low and bright light conditions thanks to a larger, more vaiable aperture. All the usual Ovi and other upload services are there along with the Nokia Music Store and N-gage gaming. The 149 gram weight seems a little on the high side though. While nothing has been said concerning the price or launch locations, the N86 has a Q2 release date. We’ll keep you updated on a release date.
