60% of EVERYONE is on the phone

Published March 11, 2009 by Luke McKinney in Uncategorized

In news that certainly didn’t make the staff of this site inappropriately excited, a recent UN report states that three out of five of everybody has a mobile phone.  That’s not three-fifths of the UK, or three-fifths of Europe – that’s three-fifths of the EARTH, aka “Three point six BILLION people!”

The incredibly surge in cellphone systems has been enabled by low-cost, old-school mobiles which only have the “press buttons to talk to other people” feature.  We’re sure you remember – LED screens?  Thicker than your thumb?  Ask your parents if you’re still confused, but be prepared for them to get misty-eyed about glorious, peaceful days when ringtones were restricted to ringing noises.
