The BlackBerry Storm was a big success for RIM, despite its initial firmware issues, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that talk of its follow-up has hit the Internet. The timing of this rumour is also important, since with continued speculation concerning the next generation iPhone and the almost-released Palm Pre, RIM must be seen busily preparing their answer to these serious competitors.
So what do we know? Unfortunately, not a lot. Slash Gear have been provided with information stating US carrier Verizon are planning a September 2009 release of the Storm 2 and that it will include Wi-Fi this time around. The fact Verizon are so closely involved leads us to believe Vodafone in Europe will once again be exclusive stockists of the Storm 2.
The BlackBerry insiders over at Boy Genius took this news a step further by adding comments regarding the Storm’s controversial screen technology. According to their sources, RIM will be replacing the SurePress screen with a new type nicknamed TruePress, however aside from promises this would be more pleasurable to use, no details were revealed.
There’s still a long way to go until September and everything you read above can only be classed as a rumour, however it’s a decidedly juicy one!
