Official Unlocked Apple Sales?

Published April 16, 2009 by Luke McKinney in Uncategorized

It seems that “actual owners” aren’t the only ones who want out of Apple contracts.  Buy.com are offering official, legal (according to them) unlocked iPhones for the low, low price of around a hundred pounds.  They offer free shipping, though that’s only stateside for now, and since they also say it’s completely sold out they might as well offer free unicorn rides with every purchase.

The implications of officially supported unlocked (or rather “never locked”) handsets are enormous.  Half of all Apple software is built to brick those who dare to try to use their own belongings, and it’ll be interesting to see how (or if) they allow for these phones.  Or whether Buy.com can expect a sternly worded e-mail any moment now.
