When you name your phone TG01, you’re leaving it nice and open for continuing your range of mobiles without challenging too many marketing folk to come up with ridiculous names. A leaked roadmap of some very interesting Toshiba mobile phones not only teases us with some very cool hardware, but that Toshiba have indeed silenced the marketing department!
The Toshiba TG01 is still waiting for its release date and is now set to be joined during Q3 by the TG02 and TG03. At this stage neither appear to be massive departures from the TG01 formula, with both seemingly occupying the same 9.9mm thick touchscreen chassis, however the TG02 brings splash resistance while the TG03 adds a 5 megapixel camera and 5.1 audio. GPS and 3G returns to the TG02, however GPS isn’t mentioned on the blurb for the TG03, but our understanding of the Snapdragon chipset was that GPS was a part of it, so we see no reason why it would be dropped on the 03.
Also contained within the leaked document are pictures of three brand new devices, the K01, K02 and L01. The Ko1 is a slider handset with a 4.1″ capacitive touchscreen (the TG’s feature a resistive panel) and a sliding QWERTY keyboard, while the K02 is a clamshell dual-screen flip phone with a QWERTY keyboard too. Finally, the L01 is a 7″ tablet akin to the Nokia N800 with a removable QWERTY keyboard and reportedly maybe powered by a fuel cell! If these had not been seen and snapped in the flesh by Engadget’s reporters back during January’s CES show, we’d swear the K01, Ko2 and L01 were the product of idle fantasy, making the tail end of 2009 look very exciting indeed!
