As a shorter than usual working week comes to a close, we’re here to give you a round-up of ten mobile phone news stories you may have missed.
1. Samsung to Release Android Phones in June?
Android may seem like it’s the rumour to leak on a slow news day, but we have faith that we’ll soon see at least one more manufacturer give the OS a go on its phones! Samsung may be in the position to be that company if this leak is to be believed, that they have three Android handsets destined for Europe by the end of this year, with the first appearing in June.

2. Could the S8000 be the First?
We saw some snaps of the S8000 with Anycall branding back in March, but now rumour has it that the Samsung touchscreen phone could be that first Android handset. With GPS, an OLED screen, 3G, Wi-Fi and a 5 megapixel camera it has a good spec sheet, but we were under the impression Cupcake Android requires a few more buttons than the S8000 currently has?
3. Charge Your Gadget at Heathrow – For Free!
If you’re flying from Heathrow airport, look out for the dubiously named Power Poles, of which their are 47, where you can recharge you phone, laptop or any other device for free before you leave! Sponsored by Samsung, you can currently find a Pole in Terminal One and Three.
4. Mobile Phone Charger Solution Beats Universal Solution.
Instead of buying a new charger or waiting for the fabled universal charging ports, if you lose your existing one, or simply use more than one phone on a regular basis, check out this excellent product! It slots into your computer’s USB port and offers multiple charger options for multiple phones!
5. Nokia Predict Worst is Over.
Nokia have suffered greatly during the current poor economic conditions, however they are predicting the second half of 2009 not to be any worse, with the potential to be slightly better for them and other mobile phone manufacturers! After reporting a 90% profit drop, they must really need this!
6. The LG SV710 Suit. Not for the Casual.
While this new LG phone is unlikely to make it to European shores, it’s worthwhile noting for its name! The Sv710 Suit does exactly what it says too, as it includes special software for expense accounts and travel data, ‘suiting’ those who are high-flying, but not high-flying enough to need a smartphone.
7. See the Sony Ericsson S312 and W205 on Video.
We covered the announcement of three mid-range handsets due out soon from Sony Ericsson earlier this month, the S312 and W205. Sony Ericsson have now provided promo videos for the S312 and W205, so we can get a closer look!
8. Nokia Photo Browser Available for All!
Well, everyone with a mobile running Symbian S60 3rd Edition anyway. If you’ve liked the look of the 3D Photo Browser found on the Nokia 5800, then pop over to Nokia Beta Labs and you’ll find it available for download onto your S60 3rd mobile phone! There’s even two versions for those phones with or without an accelerometer.
9. Concept Phone We’d Love to Own…
The Kyocera EOS has been designed by Susan McKinney and is everything we want from our future mobile phone. It has a flexible OLED screen which folds out into a beautiful widescreen display, a keypad with keys that disappear when you don’t need them and appear when you do, plus a kinetic energy system which uses your movement to keep it charged!
10. …and an Actual Phone we Don’t!
Promoted by a man who forgot to shave, the Rong Zun (or should that be Wrong ‘Un) is a mobile phone which has an electric razor built-in. Remove the protective cover on the base of the handset and start trimming away, whether you’re in the bathroom, on the train or in the middle of dinner! Gizmodo has an 8 minute unboxing video for the dedicated.
