Palm Pre Launching June 6th in USA, RIM Jealous.

Published May 20, 2009 by Andrew Boxall in Uncategorized

Palm Pre SmartphoneIf you’re in any doubt as to just how important the news that Palm will be officially launching their Pre smartphone in June is, take a look at the news agencies who picked up on the story yesterday, aside from the tech-blogs, with Bloomberg and the BBC both featuring the story on their technology front pages.  The Palm Pre has a lot riding on its shoulders, as it carries not just the hope of Palm’s revival in this tough market, but exclusive US-carrier Sprint’s too.

The June 6th date has special significance as well, for it’s just two days before the beginning of Apple’s WWDC, where it’s expected the company will reveal their new iPhone as well as launch their latest OS version for the iPhone, 3.0.  The price of the Pre has been set at $299 with a $100 mail-in rebate, effectively making the Pre $199, however this won’t be the amount anyone actually hands over in a shop, a potentially important fact.

No details on the European launch of the Palm Pre were given in the announcement, but we would expect Palm to do that soon, especially if Apple give details of any new iPhone in Europe at the WWDC.

RIM are also joining the party, with a credible sounding rumour they will be announcing their BlackBerry Storm 2 in June too.  So, along with Nokia’s N97, Samsung’s I7500 Android phone and now, potentially, Toshiba’s Snapdragon-equipped TG01 too, June is going to be a very exciting month indeed!
