The Samsung Unpacked event, which unveiled the S8000 Jet in London, also took place in Singapore and Dubai, where three other new mobile phones were shown off. Here’s what’s new:
We guessed we’d see the Samsung I8000 Omnia 2 a few days before Unpacked, but it’s good to see it official and to get the full lowdown on its specification. Like the i900 Omnia, it’s powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, but this time with version 2.0 of the TouchWiz UI over the top. The I8000 has a 3.7″ WVGA AMOLED touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, HDSPA and HSUPA, Wi-Fi, 8 or 16GB of internal memory and GPS.
The next two handsets are also branded Omnias, the B7300 OmniaLITE and the B7320 OmniaPRO, but there is no word whether we’ll see either in the UK. The OmniaLITE is a touchscreen mobile again running Windows Mobile 6.1 and TouchWiz v2.0, plus HSDPA and Wi-fi, GPS and a 3 megapixel camera. The OmniaPRO loses the touchscreen and is reportedly a rebranding of the i637 Jack, a popular QWERTY mobile in the USA. The spec matches the LITE with a 3 megapixel camera, GPS, HSDPA and Wi-Fi onboard.
One thing’s for sure, it has been a busy week for Samsung!
