Orange will offer teenagers call credit in exchange for exposure to advertising. The proposed deal is in partnership with advertising company Blyk and, possibly, Satan himself as summoned through silicon. The idea is that subscribers will agree to ads through their phone in return for fractions being knocked off their bill.
This is another sign that he mobile smartphone network is developing as an important subset of the internet, invasive ads and all. It’s hard to imagine how bad the spawn of the Blyk/Orange partnership will be, but it’ll be pretty bad – they know for a fact that the phone will be left to play ads to itself if there’s any way for the user to do so, so signees can expect interstitial ads (remember those?) before placing, receiving, or even thinking about any call. For starters.
