The second LG Design the Future competition ran from April until June this year and garnered more than 800 entries. The brief was simple, design a phone that would define the future of mobile communication, and be in with a chance of grabbing a cash prize, international stardom and perhaps have your idea made into an actual LG phone.
At the tail end of last week, LG issued a list of this year’s winners, with the ‘CC’ designed by Emily Albinski, collecting the top prize of $20,000. The CC has a core unit which can be inserted into either a touchscreen phone or netbook, however, no pictures of her modular mobile phone have been released, presumably because LG have suggested the phone may become a production model in the future.
Instead, we get to see two of the phones which won $1000 and fell into the ‘Honorable Mentions’ category, and seeing as we have pictures of them, we assume LG consider them a little too futuristic at this stage! The first is HiFi, a touchscreen phone which transforms into a pair of headphones for music and in-call use, and the second is the Morph, with its flexible touchscreen able to become a bracelet. Congratulations to all the winners of this interesting competition!
