‘Tis the season for designer-brand phones to come back into fashion. If you’re style of choice falls into the price range of Lamborghinis and other extravagant luxuries then the new phone for you just might be the Meridiist. It is designed to mimic many of the design features of the Lamborghini Murcielago, the luxury auto maker’s amazing flagship supercar.

The vehicle is an amazingly stylish two-door, two-seat coupe which boasts a V12 engine, a 0-60 mph speed of less than four seconds and a potential top speed of well over 300 mph. The new phone is based on the design of the vehicle. It features handbrushed stainless steel for both the case and the keypad, a signature on the battery cover that mirrors that seen on the car’s engine block and a Lamborghini trademark image on the phone’s central button. Its true flashiness comes from dual LCD displays created from 60.5 carats of scratch-resistant crystal.

But does the phone live up to the quality of the Lamborghini automobile? Like with most designer brands, it’s more for show than for function. It’s a bulky phone (4.5” x 1.8”) with a nondescript built-in 2 megapixel camera and not a whole lot of other specs worth mentioning. People who choose to get this phone are getting it for the luxury of having a Lamborghini-brand cell phone that is only available in a limited edition quantity (1963 of them, to be exact, referencing the year Lamborghini was founded).

The phone, which is made by sports watch makers Tag Heuer, can be pre-ordered in a variety of colors and comes with a case made of alligator skin or pure leather. The price for this phone has not been released but the original car sells for well over a quarter of a million dollars so it’s safe to assume that this phone isn’t cheap.
