Flexible, Indestructable AMOLED Screens Getting Ever Closer

Published November 9, 2009 by Andrew Boxall in Uncategorized

While dropping your phone is never a good idea, the thought of never breaking the screen if it does happen would be a calming one.  A video showing Samsung’s latest flexible AMOLED screen indicates those times are marching ever-closer and that the incredible tech will protect against hammers as well as gravity’s grasp!

The quest for flexible screens accelerated when OLED screen technology began to become more viable, thanks to the lack of backlight.  Sony showed off an early prototype back in 2007, but it is Samsung who have delighted in giving us plenty of updates since then, showing off this demonstration of how the screen could be used on a mobile phone a year later.

The previous update from Samsung came in May, when a 6.5″ flexible AMOLED screen was shown running video almost regardless of how it was manipulated. Samsung were pleased to announce their flexible friends were getting cheaper to produce, and with this latest video, we wonder how long until we see the first production device using one will be.
