HTC’s Legend Set for Stardom

HTC Legend

What springs to mind when you think of a legend?   King Arthur perhaps, or Elvis Presley ?  A Japanese saloon car?  Tom Cruise battling the Lord of Darkness?  Well, from now on if you’re a mobile fan, then the next Android phone from HTC could join the list!  The HTC Legend was part of the Lifestyle section on the recently leaked 2010 roadmap for the company, but since then we have been treated to a few more details and an eye-catching render.

This is how the Legend is shaping up so far:

  • A 3.2″ AMOLED touchscreen.
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and an LED flash.
  • A 600 Mhz processor with 256MB of RAM.
  • 512MB of internal memory and a MicroSD card slot to expand this further.
  • GPS.

The HTC Legend is being billed as the replacement to the Hero and the pictures certainly do bare considerable resemblance to the existing Android champion.  Key differences between the two include the introduction of an optical mouse instead of the Hero’s trackball, a metallic chassis and a slimmer form factor with a less pronounced chin.  Whether the Legend or the previously reported Espresso will replace the Hero in HTC’s range could potentially be revealed during February’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Aside from the above features, the Legend will be a 3G phone and feature at least Android 2.0, Bluetooth v2.1, a digital compass, a 3.5mm headphone socket, Wi-Fi and various HTC widgets, although it’s not clear whether Sense will be installed as yet.

The HTC Legend is currently expected to launch at the tail end of Q1 2010, giving further weight to an MWC announcement.
