The Bravo name may have passed you by during the whole Nexus One and HTC Passion excitement at the tail end of last year. If it did, then here’s an update to bring you right up to speed with one of HTC’s most interesting phone releases currently expected this year. Initially leaked as an entry under their ‘Performance’ banner on their 2010 product roadmap, the Bravo was linked with the Passion name, which in turn was linked to the Nexus One. Well, as we know, the Nexus One turned out to be something else, and subsequent information revealed the Passion to be the US-name for the Euro-bound Bravo. Clear? We hope so!
Anyway, back to the Bravo. It may still be unconfirmed by HTC, but we have a good idea of what it’s spec sheet is going to look like:
-
A 3.7″ OLED WVGA toucshcreen.
-
The Qualcomm 1Ghz Snapdragon chipset.
-
3G with HSDPA, HSUPA and Wi-Fi.
-
Google Android 2.1.
-
A 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and dual LED flash.
-
MicroSD card slot.
-
GPS and a digital compass.
Now, if that specification looks familiar, it’s because it appears to be identical to the Nexus One. When the official announcement comes we’ll be able to confirm if there are any differences between them other than in design, but until then we’ll stick with it being potentially identical. Whatever happens though, the Bravo boasts a massively impressive feature list, especially the 3.7″ OLED screen, as WVGA resolution on an Android handset is still something of a rariety.
It’s also likely that the Bravo will have HD 720p video recording onboard, along with the usual Bluetooth v2.1, DivX support, an FM radio, a 3.5mm plug socket and the HTC Sense UI. One difference between the spec seen on the roadmap and the actual final phone is the stated 256MB of RAM being increased to 320MB. Better certainly, but still down on the Nexus One’s 512MB.
The Bravo’s design is typical HTC and is similar to the HD2 and the Nexus One, with the main differences between them being the alternative physical key layouts. An optical trackpad is likely too. The hefty 1400mAh battery should return a healthy operational time, plus the sub-11mm thickness will make it suitably svelte too.
With the Passion expected to get a January release stateside, we may be lucky and see the Bravo launched in the UK before its rumoured April date. We have a feeling it’ll be worth it!
