In two weeks time, Mobile World Congress, the most important mobile phone show of the year starts in Barcelona and here we have one of the first new product leaks ahead of that time. Samsung is the manufacturer in question and the phone is the Android-based Galaxy 2.
For once, we have a relatively comprehensive feature list too:
-
3.7″ AMOLED touchscreen.
-
Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor.
-
A 5 megapixel camera.
-
GPS.
-
Wi-Fi and 3G.
-
32GB Internal memory.
Add to this the fact the Galaxy 2 will be running version 2.1 of Android and we have a pretty familiar set of specifications. Yes, this new Android phone is another ’superphone’ designed to take on the likes of the Google Nexus One and the currently unreleased HTC Bravo and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. The case design is also reminiscent of the Nexus One and in the renders you can see various side-mounted controls along with a 3.5mm jack plug.
The story doesn’t end there however, as there is also the possibility the Galaxy 2 will not run Qualcomm’s speedy Snapdragon processor, but the Samsung Hummingbird ARM Cortex A8, another 1GHz monster, instead – an interesting development and one with the potential to really make the next wave of Samsung smartphones standout. We’re expecting the Galaxy 2 to make an appearance at MWC, with a rumoured release date of Q2 2010.
