Are you the kind of person who likes to make a lot of things by hand? Or do you like to buy things that have been handmade by creative people? If so then you know that Etsy is a wonderful place for purchasing such items or just for getting ideas about what you might want to make for yourself. And yes, there are tons of different accessories and items that you can get handmade for your mobile phone. Below you’ll find a list of the many different types of handmade items that people are creating for their cell phones. Hopefully this will inspire you to get creative with your own handset. And hey, guys, many of these things make great Valentine’s gifts for the ladies in your life! Some of the many different items that you can handcraft for a mobile phone include:
Arm Warmers with Built-In Mobile Phone Pocket. This design has got to be one of the most creative options for people to consider making or buying. It’s a set of arm warmers that are intended to be both cozy for the wearer and fashionable to wear. They’re more functional than that, though; they’ve got a little pocket built right into the underside of them where you can tuck your mobile phone. No more having to carry a purse around with you or even worry about having pockets in your pants … you can just put on your arm warmers and go. Leg warmers could be made using the same idea, of course.
Cell Phone Bag. A much more traditional accessory for your mobile phone is the cell phone bag. As the name suggests, this is a little bag that’s been designed for the sole purpose of holding your mobile phone. It has a little handle on it for carrying it around. There are many different designs for mobile phone bags but a favorite is the mini-tote.
Mobile Phone Purse. It’s easy for people who don’t know a lot about fashion and accessories (ahem, guys) to mistake the mobile phone bag for a mobile phone purse but these are two distinctly different items. The purse is also designed just to hold the mobile phone but it typically has a very long strap to put over your shoulder so that carrying your mobile phone is more convenient.
Cell Phone Clutch or Wristlet. Yes, this is an entirely different type of purse or bag for the mobile phone. This one is basically a mobile phone bag that has a strap to go around your wrist instead of having a handle to hang on to. This is perfect for when you’re going out in the evening in your little black dress and need something to carry along with you for holding you ID and mobile phone.
Mobile Phone Necklace Bag. This is one more type of purse or bag for your mobile phone. What’s different about this one? You wear it around your neck like a necklace. If you’ve ever seen a medicine bag then you have a basic idea of what this one is designed to look like. This way you can keep your mobile phone safe and close to your heart.
Mobile Phone Lanyard Holder. This is similar to the idea of a necklace bag except that it’s designed to look a lot more like a thin necklace. In terms of function, it works a lot like an ID badge. You toss it over your head and clip your mobile phone to it. However, made correctly, this handmade item can also be a super-stylish piece of jewelry.
Mobile Phone Cozy or Sleeve. This is another very popular mobile phone accessory. This one isn’t designed so much to make carrying around the phone easier but rather to keep your phone safe when it’s tossed into another bag or backpack. If you want to make one of these yourself you can do with a variety of different materials; leather and yarn are two of the most popular options. This is also sometimes known just as a mobile phone case although people call it other things, too, like a cell phone sock, a mobile phone mitten or a sweater for the mobile phone.
Cell Phone Pocket. This takes the same idea as the mobile phone sleeve but makes it a little bit more functional. It’s a pocket that’s designed just for your mobile aphone and you can attach it inside of your purse or backpack. It protects the cell phone from jostling around and also makes it easy to find it inside of your bigger bag. A great DIY idea is to make a pocket with a Velcro attachment and then add Velcro inside of your various bags so that you can easily change out the pocket as needed.
Urban Toolbelt. This is also sometimes called a holster and could arguably be considered a fanny pack. It’s a belt that also has attachments for you to add your mobile phone, usually in the form of an enclosed pocket (which is why it looks suspiciously like a fanny pack). If you get creative you can make some cute designs (an animal with its arms wrapped around your waist for example) which is what handcrafted items are all about!
Belt Loop Attachment. If you’re not interested in rocking the whole fanny pack look but you like the basic idea of it then you might want to just get a pouch or pocket designed to go around your belt or to attach to your belt loop. These are basically mobile phone bags or mobile phone cozies that have advanced functionality.
Cell Phone Wallet. You don’t have to be girly to get accessories for your mobile phone. The mobile phone wallet is a great option for guys. It’s a wallet that has a separate pouch for your mobile phone. Of course, you’d have to have a slim phone for this to really work in your pocket but it’s a good idea. One creative DIY option is the Duct Tape Cell Phone Wallet.
Mobile Phone Cuffs or Bracelets. Remember those arm warmers that we looked at in the beginning of this post? Well if you like that idea but it’s too warm out to be wearing those then a good alternative is the cell phone cuff. It wraps around your wrist like a large-banded bracelet and holds your mobile phone right inside. It’s apparently easy to make if you’re a knitter although it can be handcrafted with other materials as well.
Cell Phone Charms. These little attachments for your mobile phone have gotten so popular over the years that it’s a little bit crazy. Although they’re really a favorite of teenage girls there are a lot of DIY crafters who enjoy them as well. You can make them out of just about anything from beads to yarn to leather to found objects. Get creative and use your mobile phone charms to really say something about who you are. Here’s a good Valentine’s charm to check out for a gift.
Mobile Phone Skins. If you’re only moderately crafty and tend to do better with designing on computers than crafting by hand then you might think that there aren’t many mobile phone accessories that you can make for yourself. However that’s not true. You can always make your phone more creative by designing your own cell phone skins.
Mobile Phone Stand. What about when your mobile phone is just sitting at home? Does it need to be laying around on the counter or could you do something a little bit more creative with it? A lot of people use cell phone stands or mobile phone holders to make sure that they always have their phones in the same place. That makes the phone easy to find and adds a bit of fun DIY decor to the home. You can make these with everything from yarn to copper.
Cell Phone Charging Station. There are a lot of crafty folks out there who prefer to work with wood. The home is a great place for your handcrafted wooden mobile phone accessories. One great idea is to make yourself a little wooden charging station that attaches to the wall by your outlet. This allows you to charge your mobile phone without just leaving it on a floor or counter. Plus you can paint or decorate your charging station to express your creative side. The wall box is a great variation on this. It uses a cord to attach to the mobile phone so that it stays inside the box.
Wall Organizer for Mobile Phones. Finally, another great homemade item is the wall organizer. This is great for families that have a bunch of mobile phones. You can use wood, plastic or various found objects to create little pockets for each mobile phone. Hang them together on the wall so that everyone can find their phones in the morning without any problems. One great design is the combo phone holder and key holder.
Are there any other crafts you’re interested in trying to make for your mobile phone? We’d love to know about them!
